WAITING

Makeover nearly finished, this shows some of my plants, both new and old, patiently waiting for freedom from pots. Not the alliums at the bottom og this pic, they’re in the side border of the tiny quarry tile patio. I can’t get to the patio by the house except to water etc every surface has been in use including 2 tables.

These are some of the shade/part shade plants which include foxgloves, aquilegia, heuchera, heucherella, acers, brunnera, ferns, dicentra, chiastophyllum and awaiting the arrival of others including astrantia.

Here are some sun plants including exotics, which I’ve never grown before, 3 Canna, lagerstroemia, oleanders, are dahlias exotics? Non exotics include weigelia monet and deutzia strawberry fields and some perennials. All the others are in the first pic near house and are too numerous to mention here, in fact I’ve lost count….and there’s more to come!

Here is trellis in waiting, probably for lonicera heckrottii, it’s hiding the compost bin the compost bin, but I still think it looks like I’ve captured a dalek. This is the north east corner of my little garden. I think the common ivy is looking particularly lovely at the moment, from far away it looks like yellow blooms. The variegated leaf is a golden king holly which I’ve recently ‘lollipopped’.

My garden is a strange shape, this is the sort of south/east corner, furthest from the house, it’s rather an acute angle. This trellis is waiting to be erected to give a little privacy to the end circle patio. May have lonicera darts world or something else smelly, I want lots of perfume here. I have plans for the fence to the left of this patio. When it’s finished I will show you.

This is looking from the top of the path near house to the big circle which will have a bird bath with a gentle bubble fountain and led light, I’ll show you when it’s all finished

Thanks Louise, I've got loads and loads and even lots of bedding this year to fill in any spaces. Most of the perennial plants and shrubs are on the patio nearest the house, I just had to move some to get through. A few days ago I broke the main tall stem of a campanula chettle charm, one of my favourites, so I straightened it and bound it with some micropore tape....it seems ok :-)

Hi Simbad, I haven't done much except dig up and split plants wash celandine from roots and buy pot on new plants and water etc....my work starts next week.... feeling tired already:-)

Thanks Christina, I'll have to recruit the family to get tons of topsoil from front to back as there is only a narrow passage way, too narrow for any wheelbarrow, but i am pleased with how it's turning out:-)

Hi Hywel, yesterday we ate each meal outside on the corner circle patio (couldn't fit anywhere else lol) it was lovely. Trev who's doing the makeover couldn't come Thursday so we made the most of it:-)

4 Jun, 2010

Thanks Fluff, you wouldn't believe the hassle finding the right slabs and when they came they weren't the colour I expected lol. We ended up mixing two types. They're the Indian sandstone, we could never afford the British. I just keep looking at it, it gives so much pleasure even before it's finished:-)

It looks lovely now with all the pots grouped together and will be wonderful when they are planted up'
I kept all mine in pots last year, gathering things for my impending move to this house. I got to like plants in pots so have kept a lot of them potted and created a courtyard area near the house which I love.
You mentioned Deutzia Strawberry fields, I used to have that one and it is so pretty :~))
Good luck with the makeover :~)

Hi Pip, I've only seen photos of strawberry fields in flower so far, and mine is full of buds so it won't be long. I also love the bright green leaves. I can't tell you how hard it was potting everything up, I kept running out of pots. Some poor plants are in polythene bags with holes in lol:-)

What a wonderful colection of plants, I would be like a child in a toy shop looking around!

I look forward to seeing the finished garden in pics - loving the circles.

5 Jun, 2010

Thanks Freesia, my 'tamarisk' is in fact an acer lol though on this pic I see what you mean:-) I've no idea which acer it is as I bought it years ago. It was in a pot for some time too. It has the daintiest tiny leaf and keeps this colour all season. There's a better pic of it in 'my photos' if you are interested. I've lost a few of my shrubs in the makeover ( purposely) such as buddleias, cornus and mock orange, but kept my little acer :-)

6 Jun, 2010

Caskiss, that's exactly how I feel and I have to buy even more, it's almost a blank canvas down there:-) I'm off to Gardeners World Live on the Sunday so even more sweeties lol:-)

Thanks Michelle:-)

This must have been an exciting time Ba, reminds me of when I moved and brought as much with me as I could. There were pots everywhere waiting to be re-homed :-))))

8 Sep, 2010

It drove me up the wall Annella, I had to keep buying and begging pots, mainly 'cos I didn't only keep manyof my old plants in them, but kept buying more! Now I don't know what to do with them all, I've got an old bin full and quite a lot more in the garage.. They may come in handy one day :-)

8 Sep, 2010

I keep all mine in the garage in case I move again. It cost a fortune to buy them the first time. I used grow bags for compost as it was cheaper :-))

8 Sep, 2010

i allso use tape to mend broken stems lol

8 Sep, 2010

Annella, surely you can't bare to leave that lovely garden? Christina, my lovely old next door neighbour used to keep pigeons and he used tape and a matchstick if one broke a leg. I used a matchstick a couple of days ago on my new little golden himalayan honeysuckle:-)

9 Sep, 2010

I've taped stems to canes before, it always works. Ba I'm hanging in here as long as I can but will have to sell when the kids go. Ahhh the joys of being divorced :-(((((

9 Sep, 2010
