DON'T SPEAK TO ME OF AUTUMN!

DON’T SPEAK TO ME OF AUTUMN
IT JUST FILLS ME WITH DISMAY
FOR THE BROWN AND GOLDS OF AUTUMN
ARE THE COLOURS OF DECAY

DON’T SPEAK TO ME OF AUTUMN
IT JUST MEANS THAT WINTER’S NEAR
FOR THE BROWNS AND GOLD OF AUTUMN
MEAN THE DYING OF THE YEAR

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
RATHER SING TO ME OF SPRINGTIME
WHEN NEW LIFE COMES TO THE EARTH
FOR THE GREENS AND GOLDS OF SPRINGTIME
ARE THE COLOURS OF REBIRTH.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

AND THEN COMES GLORIOUS SUMMER
COLOURS BLAZING …. AH BUT THEN
COMES THE AUTUMN AND THE WINTER
AND THE CYCLE STARTS AGAIN

By MR B.A.KIPLINGCAKES :o))

I came in from the chilly garden that is covered in fallen leaves to read a poem that expresses how I feel beautifully

2 Nov, 2012

arrrrr that's nice pam,

2 Nov, 2012

This sums up my feelings of Autumn too. I try so hard to visulise the garden in spring and summer, but on damp dismal days...it's not easy. At least the sun is shinning today and I've managed to sweep up yet more leaves :0

LOVELY blog Ba, and brilliant poem. Do you know Thomas Hood's "November"? Every line begins with "No" . . . here's the beginning and the end:

No sun - no moon!
No morn - no noon -
No dawn - no dusk - no proper time of day -
No sky - no earthly view -
No distance looking blue -

..................................

No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds -
November!

I used to feel this way about the autumn when I was younger, but it has got easier as I've grown older for some reason. Now I actually really enjoy it, although it is always an enjoyment tinged with sadness. Actually, this year the summer was so very dreadful, the autumn felt like a relief....thank goodness that's over, hopefully next year will be a bit better! :) My friend always says, you can rely on autumn and winter and even spring...but Summer...forget it!

2 Nov, 2012

you can always speak to me of autumn! lovely blog BA,

i remember that 'no' poem sheila, used to use it in school

2 Nov, 2012

Now look here Yorkie, what's it got to do with cakes? it's just my pen name ....nothing to eat! Thanks for liking it anyway:-)

2 Nov, 2012

Thank you Pam, at least you didn't confuse me with a cake:-)

2 Nov, 2012

Thanks Waddy, I've just come in from planting out some pansies .....I've been putting off their planting for weeks. My fingers and toes were frozen:-)

2 Nov, 2012

why you call yourself Mr then.

2 Nov, 2012

Hi Sandra, I'll go and have a look at your autumn poem now too. Wish I hadn't mentioned the cakes lol:-))

2 Nov, 2012

I don't like them, for a start they are to small,

2 Nov, 2012

Thanks Sheila, I do know Hood's poem.... and how apt it is. Flippin' freezin' and damp here at the moment. I don't feel a bit like taking the girls for a walk:-)

2 Nov, 2012

It's not that I want Autumn to come, but I quite enjoy clearing the garden all ready for whatever planting scheme I think of for the following year. It gives me a 'blank canvas' so that I can create something new.

Very good poem BA.

2 Nov, 2012

Hi Karen, you're the opposite of me, I used to like autumn when younger, but don't like it now lol. Fingers crossed for a lovely long summer:-)

2 Nov, 2012

The trouble with Autumn is that it's just so difficult to miss!!
Spring comes upon us - we are often too busy to notice that it glides into summer and autumn in so IN YOUR FACE - I always think autumn is a 'dirty' month - (no not that dirty..lol!) - dirty with decay!!
Enjoyed your poem - well written!

2 Nov, 2012

Yorkie will you stop going on about cakes ...what's got into you woman? :-)

2 Nov, 2012

If you were a cake Ba you would be a luscious chocolate one.....xxx

2 Nov, 2012

I'll sing a song of plum cake
it's the one I love love the best
'Twas a Shirleytulip recipe
It won BA's taste test:-))

Now Sticki, forget about cake ...it's not good for you and you only encourage the others:-)

2 Nov, 2012

Sheila, if you look at Floribunda's 'Summer what a washout' blog you'll see a poetry battle :-)

2 Nov, 2012

I make plum cake once a week, its yummy

2 Nov, 2012

Is it Shirley's recipe you make Yorkie? it saw me through the winter:-)

2 Nov, 2012

;-) thank you for the cake poem!

2 Nov, 2012

Ba you`ve got me Singing a Song of Sixpence now, its going around in my flipping head, lol...
Pam, sorry its The Chaser, comes on every day at teatime, Bradley Walsh hosts it, they also do a celeb. one occasionally for charity....

2 Nov, 2012

i cant understand the chaser but i do like autumn watch!

2 Nov, 2012

Oh and I thought that was your poetry, BA. You couldn't put it better than that, could you!

2 Nov, 2012

I know the leaves are dying, but they display lovely colours, especially on a sunny day :o)

2 Nov, 2012

Strikes me that folks on here are batty as fruit cakes, now BA don`t let them upset you talking about cakes ,we all know you have difficulty negotiating dessert forks.lol. Did enjoy your poem tho.

2 Nov, 2012

Today I took delivery of a new cook book...it's James Martin's new one...called Slow..now, the point is...it has some fantastic old fashioned cake and pudding recipes in it, including....wait for it .....Jam Roly Poly!!!!!! YES!

2 Nov, 2012

2 Nov, 2012

2 Nov, 2012

Thanks Ba . . . not sure who won the poetry "battle" - I wouldn't like to be the one handing out medals! (but v. impressed nonetheless!)

2 Nov, 2012

Lol you're all mad.....I thought of this poem as I was walking the dogs yesterday ....everywhere was damp and cold ...I think I prefer the crispness of winter to this . Hi Rose Hywel and Stroller, thanks for looking in, you're right Phyll...the rambling of nutters lol:-)

2 Nov, 2012

Great poem Baki Pling....:)). I used to love Autumn as a child, the opposite to Karen, but not too keen now, the leaves don't last long enough! One good thing though girls, my boy who lives in Sydney says they're going to have a very hot summer, and as they're always in front, fingers crossed we will too, anyhow tomorrow I'm still planting tulips, it seems to go on forever....:((

2 Nov, 2012

Lol Janey, a hot summer .... now wouldn't that be something .... we'll all moan about the heat probably! :-) Thanks for the verbascum seeds, haven't you got nice neat hand writing? I'm going to pm you for cultivation info. I still haven't planted my tulips out yet , the ones I had in pots from last year have been raided .... by squirrels I think, apparently they're in need of sustenance as the acorn harvest was poor:-))

3 Nov, 2012

Morning BA,we went for our flu jabs at half past eight, back home at 20 to 9, " KAREN, the james Martin book you have, is it the Slow Cooking one by any chance.

3 Nov, 2012

I went out about the same time and after getting soaked going to Aldi then Tesco.....wet through and in need of coffee when I got home........

3 Nov, 2012

Afternoon you two, such early birds, have you ever had any side effects from the flu jab Yorkie?:-)

3 Nov, 2012

no never. have you

3 Nov, 2012

If I don't get up early its dark again before I can blink.....

Just made the mary berry chocolate fudge cake and the house smells lovely

3 Nov, 2012

cor that sounds intreating Pam, will look that one up

3 Nov, 2012

I've never had it Yorkie, but thinking about it as I wouldn't be able to look after OH if I was laid low. Must take him for one too:-)

3 Nov, 2012

It's dark here at 4.15pm, raining again too:-( Managed to find some sun to walk the girls in earlier though:-) I miss the Great British Bake Off don't you? Love that program. The News Quiz (Sandi Toksvig ) has finished too now, hope not for long. Much better progs on the radio and news isn't quite so depressing without the terrible pictures I think. Pam, my bestest ever friend :-} ingratiating grin ..... chocolate fudge cake eh? I am rather partial to a little cake you know, got a sweet tooth. My other bestest friend Sticki sent me a lovely slice of cake once through the post...mind you Sticki is a VERY GENEROUS person:-))))

3 Nov, 2012

Its not a little cake Ba.........I,m amazed actually how deep it is and how moist and chocoaltey......

The filling is 1/2 a bar dark choc and equal weight double cream microwaved about a minute, stirred briskly then this luscious chocolatey cream emerges all warm and glossy, you fridge it to cool and divide between top & bottom of the moist cake......these old cooks know a thing or two.....but nothing about healthy eating.......mmmmm

Its for our bonfire party tomorrow and I can't see any being left over.....sorry..... :0ΒΆ)

3 Nov, 2012

You're just tantilising each other with talk of cake !
Sometimes just reading the recipe is satisfying enough , planning to make it , but never quite getting round to it , non fattening too .
Autumn and winter are useful times to plan ahead for next year's planting frenzy ; and we can retreat to the house with a clear conscience , enjoying all the comfort foods that are not indulged in during the summer .
Love the poem , though , Ba .

3 Nov, 2012

Thanks Driad, glad you enjoyed my poem, that Pam is just a tease lol. I'd never have got through the last two winters without Shirleytulips plum cake (recipe on GOY):-))

3 Nov, 2012

Sadly this year our plums were non existent but made it with blackcurrants instead.

3 Nov, 2012

I've made it with apples and any fruit that comes to hand, even tinned pineapple:-)

3 Nov, 2012

Back to the flu jab . . . last year I was a bit unwell after it, but only for two days, so worth it!

3 Nov, 2012

Pleased they arrived okay Ba, you can sow them now or in spring, I used multiple purpose compost, they didn't have any special treatment, lovely plants well worth having.

3 Nov, 2012

Thanks Janey, I'll try both ways:-)

3 Nov, 2012

That's what I was worried about Sheila, I'm not feeling too good at the moment without the jab lol, but I will get my OH 'done':-)

3 Nov, 2012

I rely on a daily teaspoon of manuka honey.....and hope for the best

4 Nov, 2012

I hate to tempt fate, but I've only ever had 'flu twice in my life, so I may take my chances, I wonder does echinacea help with flu too.? I may try the honey Pam:-)

4 Nov, 2012

well I say after having the flu and being delirious for two days I look forward to having the jab, or as the nurse says a scratch, never felt the needle yet and its done within a second, go on book at your surgery and go for it, OH has been having them for ten years I have been having them six years, no effects with it at all,

4 Nov, 2012

On your head be it Yorkie:-)

4 Nov, 2012

BA this is nothing to do with cakes or flu jabs but I have just been listening to "Geneviere Tudor`s Sunday Folks on Shropshires radio 94fm, your daughter gave a good interview and sang some lovely folk songs - you must be very proud.

4 Nov, 2012

Thanks Phyll, I got the time wrong and had to listen on iplayer!!! Found it by googling. I also got the time wrong, it was 7.00pm. Anyway I did manage to hear her singing her two songs It was funny that poor Tony forgot the words to the third song after joking about it earlier lol. He's got rheumatoid arthritis among other things so it's amazing he can still do it really:-)

4 Nov, 2012

you booked that flu jab yet BA

5 Nov, 2012

Yes Yorkie, next week:-)

5 Nov, 2012

Oooh , not for me !

5 Nov, 2012

What do you know Driad?:-)

5 Nov, 2012

Ba , I feel that if we are in good health generally , and eat well , with lots of fresh air , our immune systems will take care of us .
I'm fully in favour of baby immunization , and for exotic travel , of course .

6 Nov, 2012

I'm supposed to take OH tomorrow, as I'm his carer I thought I should get one myself too in case I'm too ill to look after him.... not sure again now:-(

6 Nov, 2012

Sorry , Ba , hope all went well . (A bird in hand ). Does that fit the bill ? I hope so !

7 Nov, 2012

I hope it went well too Ba xxx

7 Nov, 2012

Ha ha ...I rang them in the morning and said we had tummy bugs! Just couldn't face it in case..... :-( Don't tell Yorkie:-(

8 Nov, 2012

Well I am late to this, and wonder if I am in danger of losing my Flori-Lauri crown after such a wonderful poem, and what photos too!!!
Ba, this is really lovely, though must admit, I love the Autumn, as I am a September child, and my artistic eye adores the colours, but I know what you mean..It all looks kind of sad and dowdy afterwards.. This is straight into my favs my dear friend, and I see that I will have to defend my corner when it comes to poetic stand-off! LOL! Slug blog still going strong!!!!
\0/xxx

9 Nov, 2012

More of a slugfest I would say
Over 100 yesterday........

9 Nov, 2012

9 Nov, 2012

Thank you so much Flori Lauri, I was in a slightly sombre mood, but your crown is not in danger from me lol. I'm going to look at your summer What A Washout blog now for more sluggy fun:-)
89\0/:-)

9 Nov, 2012

90) It is sometimes when we are in a more sombre mood, that we become our most creative my dear friend, and despite the demise of another year, this was still a really lovely and atmospheric poem..Perfect images too..I loved it and it is now in my Favs..\0/x

9 Nov, 2012

I'm feeling a bit guilty , me , Ba .
Hope that you are both well !

9 Nov, 2012

My dear don't feel guilty
We've giggles 'tee hee'

9 Nov, 2012

11 Nov, 2012
