OLD PATIO TIDY UP

This is the old patio, no posh Indan sandstone here, just tatty old concrete slabs,. I have been trying to sort out all my potted plants which live there and clean up the slabs. Yesterday I spent all day planting out the remains of bedding into pots and moving other big pots to please my eye. I have now developed some wonderful muscles:o))
This side faces North.
The old patio has a step down to the little quarry tile patio. This side of the steps is the lovely Spirea Pink Ice and on the other is one of my delusions of grandeur urns sans plinth. The plinth was too heavy for me to carry, but would have made it too high here anyway. I have pelargoniums, coleus and begonias in it.
Quarry tile patio, next in line for the treatment.
Looking back across quarry tile patio from the path that leads to circle garden.
Looking across to pond. It’s full of tadpoles, quite large now and at least a pair of newts:o))
Acer Orange Dream, north border quarry tile patio.
Clematis Blue moon quarry tile patio.
Pond, Geums still looking good, bottom right is El Wano.
When I came out yesterday to take some pics, I noticed this big fat wood pigeon balanced precariously on this dainty bird feeder. He was like a statue, never moved a muscle lol:o))
It has taken me days to finish the old patio. I spent all day out in the garden yesterday, didn’t finish until after 7pm I’ve repotted some camellias which didn’t flower this year and a few other plants which have outgrown their pots. It takes me about an hour now watering ….where’s the rain when you need it:o)))

Little paradise in the Midlands.

Its a lovely little cosy garden, a cottage garden like mine, only different. Very nice Ba.

Thanks Annella, I'm flattered:-))

Pam, he never even looked at me, must have been hoping I hadn't noticed him. I have a lot more work to do on the circle garden too ....where's that spinach ...and I'll obviously come back from Gardeners Worls Live with a 'few' more plants:-))

Thank you Costas, it certainly makes me happy:-)))
10 Jun, 2013
Thanks Cinders, it's a lot of work, but so satisfying .... circle garden needs work on it too. I sometimes think a large garden would be easier to look after, I could just buy a sit and ride:-))

Love your patio area BA and your pretty table and chairs to, lovely to sit there in the sun enjoying a cuppa or glass of wine.:o))
10 Jun, 2013
Love your garden BA, its so interesting, i want to be sitting there, i want to walk around your gorgeous plants and sit beside your pond, I dont know if you designed it this way or it evolved but its won a gold in my book, Better than any gardens (pics i have seen) of chelsea. If i didn't grow what i grow in my garden, I would grow what you grow hahaha does'e that make sense lol.

Thanks Sandra, we've had the weather for it too, long may it last:-))

Its really beautiful - I was going to say heaven in miniature, but Costas said it first. Your slabs might be "only concrete" but they are clean and tidy - you should see mine, I am ashamed of them. (Time for a good scrub up) And you have such lovely furniture - and those alliums are great too

It's nice to have more than one patio, and yours look very nice with all they different plants :o)

BA, It's all looking great. I'm really taken with your Quarry Tile patio. The plants surrounding it add to the feel of luxury of it.
You've been busy moving pots and I've been busy emptying them into the garden. I've so many empty (expensive) pots I need to do something with.

Wow, a lovely space, it looks homely, creative, artistic, colourful - I am getting lost for words now! It looks just the spot to chill with a glass of chilled wine! Enjoy it now after all of your hard work!

Congratulations - well done !

a wonderful patio area and garden, i only have 'common slabs' too but when all my plant pots are covering them you cant really notice the slabs. I love your seating area and pond, all your plants look great together. Well done:-)
11 Jun, 2013
Thank you Ydd, it makes complete sense lol. If I didn't grow this type of plant, I would grow exotic looking tropicals like you:-)))
11 Jun, 2013
Thanks Steragram, I use an old tool between the slabs, but a lot of the time they're overgrown ...almost a lawn lol:-))
11 Jun, 2013
Thank you Hywel, I have four 'rooms' in total, makes my little garden seem bigger, no grass though, but lots of borders:-))

Hi Scottish, I've had quite a few empty pots to fill too and some to empty. The problem is, I have bought pots of the wrong shapes which look lovely, but when I try to pot on, or plant out, the plants won't leave the pot and roots have to be cut through somewhat. No fun wrestling with large plants and pots lol. I wonder why they don't make large proper shaped pots to fit inside the large fancy shaped pots ...I'd buy them:-)) The quarry tiles probably wont last much longer. They were from my husband's daughter's old kitchen, so not really outdoor ones:-)
11 Jun, 2013
Thanks Sarah, I'm getting quite big headed lol:-))
11 Jun, 2013
Thank you Diane, now I'm hoping for some rain to help me with the watering:-))
11 Jun, 2013
Thanks Sandra, how was the holiday?:-)
11 Jun, 2013
Thanks Summerbee, I did have some Indian sandstone put in my circle garden when I had the makeover, but it doesn't half discolour and I've had to buy a power washer!:-))

Oh Ba it really is looking wonderful," I SHALL get over to see it" says she as she is planning the 156 mile round trip to go and see Cristina`s garden on this Sunday 16th, sorry.lol.
11 Jun, 2013
I hope you've put out a severe weather warning Phyl, does Cristina know what she's letting herself in for? I shall expect a blog of your visit if you can battle through the gale force winds and freezing downpour/hailstones ....poor Cristina:-))))

I love it all BA, those Alliums are wonderful and your pond area is fantastic, I would love to have a stroll around your garden it all looks so inviting and so much interest too, a credit to you, all your hard work as been worthwhile!! Your Orange dream is lookingso lush and healthy is it in the sun or the shade, the little one I bought from Morrisons is really struggling and losing its leaves!
11 Jun, 2013
Hi Carole, thanks, it's in the shade, north border, maybe gets a little sun for a short time and I don't think they like to dry out. Those alliums are multiplying madly, my nearly daughter-in-law has put in an order for my spares:-))
11 Jun, 2013
I will se how mine gets on as it is in a very suuny spot so perhaphs that is why the leaves are dropping, I my have to move it to the shahe if it doesn't buck up ;0)

Thank you John, even my muscles have got muscles:-))
12 Jun, 2013

yes, great back garden area, very inviting, Bornagain. I have only concrete slabs too, and was thinking of a change........ so, went to look at a centre for patio slabs, the NEW stone looked nice, but the ones there that were weathered [in same materials] didn't look great at all, so thought 'not bother with it '[so expensive too.]When concrete weathers it looks ok [better than new] and as somebody said, you can put lots of pots on it.A friend of mine has put down a 'membrane' on her concrete patio and then covered with attractive gravel, and then pots, this looks great!May do the same. Your Fatsia Japonica is amazingly huge! I put one in 2 years ago and it's about 3 feet high now, so am hoping it will get to height of yours.
14 Jun, 2013
Thanks Freeasabird, the fatsia was bought as a houseplant about 15/18 years ago:-))
15 Jun, 2013
Oh no! I am in for a long wait then! It may well outlive me. grrrrrr.
16 Jun, 2013

What a tranquil place, with such healthy plants. Well done, your hard work is a credit to you. Your pond obviously has the right Ph balance if the wild life are making their home there. Keep up the good work :)
23 Jun, 2013
Thanks Waddy, its rather green I'm afraid and the magpies keep fishing for tasty tadpoles:-( Some have survived though and the newts are still there:-))
23 Jun, 2013
Very very nice!
