holiday near Tenby

Back from our great holiday in lovely Tenby. There were 5 adults and 3 children in our caravan. For the first few days it mainly rained, but nothing daunted, we still went to the beach for a paddle. We fell in love with Tenby, I saw my first travellers joy (wild clematis) It was identified for me on GOY, and was amazed by the budding Epstein on the beach who had such delightful apprentices. I think the sandman looks like Bruce Forsyth, it was nice to see him. The gardeners caravan was the only one on site to be so elaborately decorated. We also saw some very impressive sunsets. Most days we would build sand castles and paddle, walk along the beach to Tenby have a lovely lunch there and mooch, then back along the beach paddling at the edge of the water.. lovely. The path is the one we took to the beach from the caravan park every day. The carousel is in the largest old fashioned indoor funfair in Europe orhttp://media.growsonyou.com/photos/blog_photo/image/15722/main/DSCF020
! something like that. It’s in a place called Folly Farm which is such great value for money and has a little theatre and Zoo amongst other attractions.
Oops I’ve got two Bruce Forsyths, how do I delete one? I’m not very good at this yet:-))
Now for the embarrassing bit:
We travelled there by National Express and I can’t praise the coach drivers highly enough they were brilliant. We boarded the coach at Birmingham and I sat next to a very nice lady from Glasgow who had lived in Wales for 25 years. She was visiting a new grandchild in the midlands. Although she had been away from glasgow so long, her accent was still very strong and I found myself nodding and smiling occassionally in what I hoped was the right place. As we approached a small town, I asked her where we were “Carmarnntenneeth” she said. I don’t know why I did it, but I fixed her with my beady eye and repeated what she said in what I thought was my best welsh accent. No she said and patiently repeated the word. Once again, looking her in the eye and confident I had picked up the slightly different pronounciation, I gave it my best shot. Carmarneenteneeth. nooooo she said giving me an exasperated look and she fished in her bag and brought out her coach timetable and pointed to the word Neath. OMG did she think I was making fun of her accent! Now you see why I’m neurotic Yes the nutter on the bus was me! Now whenever anyone mishears or mistakes a word, my grandchildren say “carmarninteneeth” and fall about laughing :-))

Thanks Bobq, I'll master it one day. I forgot to add my embarrassing little anecdote which I was convulsed over for days, every time I thought about it. So now I've found out how to add to my blog as well :-))

Thankyou Mp, Sandra I think you are very lucky, even the air tastes better there. Now can anyone help me? I noticed (very observant) on other blogs that you can comment on your photos by your photos and guess what? I've no idea how :-))
16 Aug, 2009
When you're editing, you can insert comments between the text for the photos. Play about with it, but keep "saving" & checking it out. If you put your comments in the wrong place, just cut & paste them to where you want them.OR, put your comment in,& add pics one at a time!
16 Aug, 2009
Thanks Mp, it all sounds very technical for a technophobe who can't even cut and paste! I'll play with it later. Is there a way of altering the position of your photos so they're in the right order?
16 Aug, 2009
Yep! Cut & paste agai! But make sure you get the exclamation marks before & after too, or it'll wipe out the pic!!
I just played til I could work it out!
16 Aug, 2009
Thanks again Mp:-)
16 Aug, 2009
You're welcome!

I've wiped out a pic and put one on its side. when I press brouse I've lost my finepix pics so can't replace the lost pic and still can't cut and paste :-(( think I didn't get the !!!'s I'm a hopeless case Mp I give up.

Hiya! Sorry, been having big probs with pc, I even sent david an email with what I was trying to send you!!
I'll try again tho!
To cut & paste, left click at the start of whatever you want to cut or copy, & run mouse along til it gets to the end of the bit you want.
this should have turned your "target" black.
Right click on the black bit, & left click on cut.
The text will vanish,.
Move cursor (arrow) to where you DO want the text , right click, left click on "paste" & it should land where you want it!
Try it out on a dummy blog, dont give up!

I love Tenby but didn't get to go there this year.
Was the carousel at Folly Farm? And is that where they had the Giraffes. We've got Wild Welsh Zoo on BBC Wales at the mo Anna Ryder Richardson took over Manor Park in Tenby I never went there in 20 yrs of being a regular visitor to Tenby but I would now.
Was your caravan site in New Hedges? I thought I recognised the path to the beach.
We're planning to travel National Express to Gatwick for first time next month a friend always goes that way. We drove to Heathrow earlier this yr but coming back we were too tired and Gatwick involves the M25 as well.We live near Cardiff.

Hi Gardengirl, yes it was Folly Farm, we loved it, there was a zoo, a large barn where the children could feed the little kids with a bottle (granddaughter 3 year old loved this) I suppose this activity is suspended at the moment with fears of e coli. There was a doggy agility type show in the little theatre which we all loved too. The funfair was brilliant, we all had rides, I loved the carousel and it was very reasonably priced, you could easily spend the whole day there. The site we were on was the Haven site, I wouldn't recommend it, but would go to Tenby again at the drop of a hat, good food in Tenby too. If your National Express drivers are anything like the ones we had I'm sure you'll enjoy your journey:-)

Thank you for sharing your holiday photos. I took my family to Tenby and enjoyed the beach there too many years ago so this brought back some happy and one alarming memory. There was a swimming pool and my youngest who was a toddler at the time fell in. I has to fish her out and fortunately no harm was done. I always had to build the largest sand castle on the beach and was impressed by the sand sculpture in your photos- was it your son in law who did this? It sounds as though you had a fabulous fun family holiday. Your story about the misunderstanding caused by the accent was really hilarious and I bet your grand children will never forget it. I really enjoyed this blog.

Thankyou Gf, The children would like to go to Tenby next year too as they loved it. We would maybe like to try Anglesey next time or do you have a better recommendation? It must have been a frightening experience with your daughter though. Yes it was my son-in law Paul, I didn't know he did them :-)

I tried a multi-generation family holiday a few times abroad but only once in the UK in Devon. I doubt I could recommend anywhere suitable from personal experience of a good site with plenty of facilities for all the family where you stay locally. I suspect Anglesey would be a more sedate holiday destination than your Tenby holiday. I doubt you will find any fun fairs at all on Anglesey. I note you enjoyed the coach trip to Tenby but in order to enjoy Anglesey, I think it is pretty essential to have a car.

Thanks Gf, perhaps not Anglesey then:-)

Hello girls, fancy seeing you here! Tenby is lovely for children Bloomer and being a child at heart .... I loved it too, but i think the children's enjoyment added to mine. The alien said the same thing about my family Pip:-)

Hi Ba great blog and you look as though you like Tenby very much, to delete a picture you have to click on 'edit blog entry' at the top of your blog then scroll down the text until you see the picture in text form it will start with !http and then just highlight and delete the text you don't want then click on publish tab at the bottom. But a little tip when you are writing your blog if you click on the tab 'save draft' it will allow you to look at the blog as it will appear on the site before you actually publish it.
