Kildrummy Castle Gardens Visit

Kildrummy Castle
Kildrummy Castle
The castle was built from rock taken from an adjacent quarry. In the eighteen hundreds a new ‘castle’ was built and the owners spent a considerable amount of money turning the quarry into a very interesting garden.
You will see that this garden is more open than Lechmelm and allows for easier viewing of the garden as a whole rather than individual specimens. At this time of year the main interest of the garden is the rhododendrons and there are some beauties.
I couldn’t help noticing the branches on this ?spruce with the ‘red’ female flowers and the ‘male’ immature cone.
After going round the garden it was back to reception where Moon Grower found her pictures (Moon Growers blog – 7 May). At least I had full licence to buy plants from the plant stall after that.

A lovely place to visit. I liked the arched bridge.

It is a very nice garden to visit. Next to come at Kildrummy will be the masses of candelabra primulas that I remember from a previous visit.
Hywel, the bridge is a replica of the Brig o' Balgownie in Aberdeen. The landowner of the time, about 100 years ago, had a pound or two to spare so thought he would have a replica of this landmark. Well, you do don't you!
