Home-Made Christmas Decor.

Well, December has just started, and my neighbourhood has suddenly come alive with Christmas trees, lit-up windows, etc – a bit too early for me, am afraid!
I had, however, promised my children that, come December, we would begin to plan, and make, our own festive decorations, as a gap-filler between the ever-darkening hours between after-school and dinner.
My first step was to raid my two garden sheds for plant pots (which had to be ceramic – and found 8!).. I gave them a thorough wash and dry, and managed to give them a spray-paint of gold or copper, before lunch-time!
After lunch, I had just enough time to dash around the £1, and charity, stores to find suitable sprigs of foliage, candles, ribbon powdered plaster/crack filler, etc.
We began by taping sprigs of foliage round the inside edges of a pot, using porous tape.
Just before completing the “edging”, we poured in a “batter” of plaster filler, and left to set. After dinner, the plaster had firmed up enough to in-fill with the rest of the folaige, and a cream-coloured csndle.
We added a wee robin to it (for seasonal//bird/wildlife interest.
Just in time – it is snowing here now, in the early hours of Wednesday – my young gardeners will be amazed in the morning!!! :-))

Did they wake to lots of snow ?

It's fantastic your idea of getting the children involved in the garden projects and now making your own Xmas decorations, most people (me included) would get the car out and go down the shops and buy ready made, I am trying to be more creative but I have always failed to have that creative streak in me, but I will try harder ..... honest. :o)))

Many Thanks, everyone. Bob - I'd probably do the same and just buy some decorations, too, but having young children encourages me to make an effort. Today we made another three of these, which will be finding their way into Grandmas' and Aunt's Christmas parcels.
The snow actually came to nothing much, and was all but gone when we awoke this morning (I, personally, was glad about this). :-))

David, love your idea of making a decoration! It looks very beautiful! Last year I made some ones using only dry seed heads, fruits and candles. Think to make it this year too. :) Love the pots!

It's great to make up some of your own decorations for Christmas, as a boy in London we used to make some of our own decorations - just this moment come to mind that we used to cut things out of crepe paper & we used to make paper chains - miles of the things it seemed!!!
My wife has made things for the Christmas table & years ago we used to fill the house with decorations on the ceiling, walls & doors. I got fed up doing that year after year & now we hardly do anything.
We are going to my wife's hometown in the centre of Spain this year for Christmas & the New Year. It will be the first time we have spent Christmas with our family over there in 8 years! We will be able to see our two sons who still live out there & our daughter is going with us though she will have to return before the New Year as her partner has to return to work on the 4th Jan.
I haven't seen either of our two sons since the youngest got married over there more than 3 years ago. My wife has been back twice a year since we've been back in the UK but for me it will only be my 3rd trip back to Spain in 8 1/2 years since I returned to the UK!

Many Thanks again, Folks! :-))

A great activity for some quality family time David, and the decorations are lovelier than most I've seen for sale this year. I'm sure Aunt & Grandma will doubly appreciate these gifts!
