Kingfisher

The kingfisher has been visiting our pond for a few years now. Very shy little bird but today we got pics. Well, my daughter did. He landed on the bridge, then dived to catch a minnow, then flew to perch on the duck house before going off on his travels.

:-)

Wow.....fantastic .

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Hardly seen him all summer so nice to have him around again. We hear him before we see him. Gives out a high pitched pipping sound. The RSPB website says there are only between 3,800 and 4,600 breeding pairs in the UK so nice to see one.

Oh my word! Gone to my favourites. Is there a bird more beautiful in the world? I don't think so. The colours...wow! Thanks so much for putting these on Dawn. I've only seen one once....on the River at Bath...many years ago now.

Thanks Loosestrife. Karen, you normally only get a flash sighting don't you. They are beautiful and tiny. This afternoon I was pottering around and I heard his call, I went to the house to tell Charlotte as she's been after pics of it for Instagram. She was literally lying on the ground on the pond bank. She saw him dive in twice and come out with a minnow ?

Thanks Anne. Hi Pam, we get the greedy heron too - so annoying. We have a squirrel nest in the woodland which isnt great but then we had tawny owls nest again earlier this year - I guess we have to take the rough with the smooth with wildlife.

Only caught a glimpse of a kingfisher on a nearby river and thought I was lucky! Great to have this beautiful bird visit even if the fish won't agree.

I know what you mean, a quick flash of blue and they are gone. I appreciate how lucky we are.
