I don’t know if you’ve looked out of the window tonight? We have a super moon, it is HUGE! Besides being large it will turn coppery red in the middle of the night as it closely approaches Earth and coincides with a total lunar eclipse. This photo taken at 8.30pm by my lovely daughter :-)

wow, aren't you the photographer. I'm impressed. Not sure why my moon pictures all come out blurry.

Usually it's condensation on the camera lens. Going from room temp to whatever the outdoor temp is will cause fogging of the lens. The cure...let your camera acclimate outside for a while. Otherwise steady your camera on a tripod, get your view of the moon on the viewfinder, set the shutter on timed delay, press and hands off to avoid vibration.

I watched it till about 11.30pm,and it really was a beautiful sight..that is a great photo, taken by your daughter,Dawn..I did toy with the idea of setting the alarm,to watch it in the early morning, but I chickened out of getting up so early.I believe it will be 30 years before it happens again...Thanks for sharing this :o) x

Hi all. My husband and daughter were up at 3am (I wasn't!) It was coppery red then and quite dark.

We saw it at just after 3am and were pretty disappointed. From here it was a sort of misty grey with a reddish tinge, nothing like what we were expecting. That 's a brilliant photo - do you know what the two sparkly bits are?

Thanks for the reminder and great photo, Dawn. I'm always waking up in the middle of the night, and was lucky - just after 3.00am - to see the moon tinged with red and three-quarters covered by the earth's shadow . . . spectacular :)

Great photo Dawn its only because its low and closest to the earth it appears so big it lite the skys here in Coventry up so bright. Its suppose to be the end of the world to day according to certain relgions earth quakes etc but I am still here ?

I was at the coast in Scotland on saturday night, its dark skies there, no light pollution, the tide was in and bathed in silvery light........ just magical

Superb photo ... I was awake just before 3am and saw the same as Sheila ... fascinating sight.

It was amazing to see the Earth's shadow cross the moon, then it turned a dusky coppery orange. Ours took place between 9-10pm.

Well done Charlotte a fabulous photo Dawn , would you believe we both woke up at approx. 2.30 am trotted off to the Loo and both mention in the morning how light it was at 2.30 am ,even then we didn't realize we had missed it ,I'm so annoyed :o(

I sent OH off to bed earlier & promised to wake him for the eclipse which I did at 2.24am.
We had a great view of it but our pics were rubbish. We could see it all from our garden so didn't have to head up the hill until the re-emergence.
The optimal time for a full Blood Moon was 3.47am, so, yes, I stayed up all night in the end.
It wasn't as big as I expected it to be even tho some say it was huge, fortunately it was a clear starry night with just a little thin cloud cover here in Suffolk.

I viewed the whole even from patio chair in my garden as well with a cup of coffee and apple pie.

Sounds perfect, Bathgate. :)

Better than 4 in the morning Bathgate!

I watched it from 2:15am (a bite out of the moon) until 3:15am (total eclipse and a sort of grey-red colour). Then decided bed was a better place to be. Absolutely clear skies here over Bracknell.

Never mind DD - there'll be another one in 2033. Better put it in your diary now.

This one was particularly spectacular. It happened during a supermoon on a clear cloudless night right over my house. Now what was that I heard about another hurricane headed my way?

If it does hit us Bathgate I heard from a good source that your going to watch it by sitting outside in your garden on your patio chair with a nice cup of java and a piece of Junior's Cheesecake:) I suggest though that you wait until the eye of the hurricane is directly over you to pour youself another cup.

It's glowing beautifully at the moment with a copper glow ringing the outer edge. It is supposed to be at it's best between 3am and 6am. Would be nice to catch a glimpse of it in the morning when I'm out with the dogs
