Beautiful Visitor

Just been out to open the greenhouse door and who should I see?…
He’s been a regular visitor but I’ve never had my camera to hand in time to capture him on film.

What a gorgeous looking bird. They can be a nuisance though.

They are lovely to look at and, congratulations, on a great picture..
We have them hopping about in the meadow, especially in the evenings ( after grasshoppers, I imagine). Sadly, they are agressive and greedy; they'll run 20M to chase off smaller birds when there is plenty of food for all

Lovely photos, the Jay visits here but I've never got a good photo.

Lovely pics and well done on finally getting them on camera. A pair have been visiting us daily for a couple of months and although they do go on the feeders I haven't noticed them being aggresive, in fact they're scared of the magpies. unfortunately one of them badly damaged a leg but managed to get around quite well in spite of it for several weeks. Not seen it for about a week now although the other one still comes but not so much. I'm hoping that maybe they've finished rearing their young so don't need to visit us much now.

Good you caught him on camera. I used to see lots in the other garden, but none since moving up here.

It's a shame you've never seen one. They really are a beautiful bird - even though they've got a bit of a nasty streak!

We have Jays in our garden, due to the woodland behind us. For the best part they stay in the wood and we only hear their raucous cries, however, when the cherries were ready the greedy Jays took more then their fair share, and when the weather is cold they eat all the food off the bird table or chase other smaller birds away.
Jays are also accredited for taking songbird eggs and their chicks, thus adding to the decline of songbirds.
They are beautiful to see though, like Magpies when the sun catches their feathers and you see the iridescent sheen on them.
