The day started off quite well whizzed round with the hoover flicked a duster got the washing hung out and then into the garden.
Then disaster the leather split beyond wear on my beloved gardening shoes.
They started off as smart flatties, then pop to the shops wear, then in the garden and we have been together happily for years.
The memories we shared the tussles with plant roots, we got dirty together, we got wet, we got too much sun, we washed, we dug, we hoed, we got tired, we did everything together. The thought of breaking in another pair – Oh I cannot garden today out of respect. Should I bury them, as I cannot take them to the tip? I have a feeling wherever they are they will appoint another pair for me tomorrow!

Ohh I know the feeling - I work afternoons and one morning was out pottering in the garden tidied up etc but when it came to going to work I put on my gardening shoes instead of my work shoes - luckily I kept my feet under my desk and no-one noticed but it was the comfortablist (is that a word? you know what i mean!!) day ever!!! I feel the same about my gardening gloves - only really use them for thick, heavy, prickily stuff but would be totally lost without them.

I think thats a good idea using them as plant holders

I could'nt bear to see them anymore so they are now buried near my cat Chelsea I think that's appropriate as she went on new years day 2001 and I must have worn them to do it. I am going to see Sarah Raven's farm/garden tomorrow not Sissinghurst Castle her other house near Robertsbridge and am sure to find a plant there or 2 or 3 or!

I sort of sympathise. I'm sure it must be a bit of a blow to lose them after so long but I can't say I have the same affection for my gardening shoes. As I garden for work, they get worn out very quickly so I don't have the opportunity to get attached to them. I wish I did. I usually get through 2 pairs a season!!!!!

Had a chuckle after reading about your shoes,I,m afraid I do the opposite and forget to change shoes therefore lose my favourite going out ones and end up with lots of gardening shoes to choose from.........

I have a pair of old sandals I ware in the garden. The earth goes into them easilly so my feet get dirty lol. I had another old pair before them that I just 'kept' because I didn't like to throw them away, but I lost them when I moved.
