I've posted my front gates for you to see but next time I'm in the Country I'll photo some lovely old farm gates. I particularly like old broken ones, don't quite know why. I once saw one made entirely of 'split timber and pegs, sadly I've forgotten where I saw it. I'm fascinated by them and often try to imagine what they've seen over the years. OK big iron ones seen on large estates are most impressive, but Church gates can be interesting too. The local Duke of Westminster has enormous gates to his Mansion. One of his ancestors entered a race on horse back to win the entire estate, The first one to touch the large gate won. His ancestor was slightly behind so he cut off his hand and threw it at the gate and won. There's a hand on the gate today.

I know what you mean Derek if I cannot see through a gate I have the urge to climb!
The more gates the merrier Heron I love the old ones.

I love to see old gates. I've never thought of taking photos of them. You have some nice ones, but I must say I'm not keen on those high wooden ones lol. They're not very friendly. When I lived in the old cottage I used to have chats over the front gate to people going down the road :o)

Our local authority has erected galvanised steel kissing gates all over the place, they are practical but have no character.

Heron...you write? With your imagination I feel it would be quite a good idea...you could write novels about what the gates have seen!

It's nice to know I'm not the only 'Gate Geek' though I have to say I don't like those new tube metal ones, You could have started something here as I suspect that others will want to show you theirs. I'll post mine in the gallery.
