Path to Patio Progress

I have followed, with interest, those members who have posted ongoing pictures of their gardens. I thought I’d add a few photos of my progress in building a path, from my house up to my workshop and potting shed, using granite boulders. I also built a patio which, because of its high position, gives us an extra hour of sunshine when the sun has sunk below the trees and left the main terrace in shade.
It was long, hard work but also a labour of love. As can be seen, my old cricket pads have proved invaluable as ‘kneelers’ in the garden.
The views, especially on a long summer’s evening, add to the satisfaction.
Because of the area opened up by the path/patio I’m trying to plant the surrounding area as a ‘bee/butterfly’ friendly garden. However, it’s only about 30 by 10 metres and gets full sun from about 10am onwards. The area ajoins pine woods so the soil, although good, is very dry. Any suggestions on suitable ground cover, shrubs and flowers would be appreciated.

what a nice outlook, you're doing a splendid job of it, I envy you sitting there watching sundown with a glass of the local. As TT says Lavender would be perfect but I suppose it would have to be 'French' Sedum 'Autumn Joy or Brilliant would grow there too. For early summer the low growing Ceanothus perhaps. Maybe some Miscanthus.

What a gorgeous terrace - and a cute little shed too. :-) Love it all!

well done, it looks fantastic. Very nice setting too. Nicer than the usual wooden sheds (jealous really)

Thanks to those who commented on the blog.
I've started (today) using the original windows and outside doors from the house to build a greenhouse in the ruined outbuilding (shown with a tarpaulin in the second photo).
I'll add progress photos when I finish.
It must be my age but I'm not very good at doing nothing. I've been retired for 10 years and every day I wonder how the heck I found time to do a full time job. Is it just me or do other 'pensioners' feel the same?

Only just retired and we have no free slots left in our week, let alone do the garden !!!! Were did we find the time ??? Lol. =))

Same here - I always feel like I'm running to keep up and the list of things to be done gets longer and longer. I don't know either how I managed to fit work in too.

great job you've done :-)

Thanks 'grindle'. As you're retired I suppose, like 'Beattie', 'Grandmage' and me, you wonder where the hours go.
