We too had a nightmare period over internet links, with AOL and BT both blaming each other. This went on for weeks together with faults on the phone line as well.

I hope youre sorted now - as we are.

Hello Fluff, You probably dont know much about me but I have been around a while, but like you I've had nothing but problems with my computer, not broadband I'm o.k. with that have BT, no an Acer computer, only 6 months old never buy one of those. So I can commiserate with you. Anyway just wanted to say, nice you are back, and love your pussy cats, Although they wouldn't go well with my canary. This one is Titchy, my first one was Fluffy.

Hi Titchy ... nice to hear from you ... Poole isn't far from me ... we are on the North Dorset/Somerset border & I often wish we were nearer the coast.
I've had a peek at your profile & blogs ... your garden is really well laid out. Different levels & slopes make for interesting planting & you've done it all beautifully!
My daughter has an Acer laptop & it's rubbish ... I was given one for a present but changed it to an Advent ... much better.
Your canary is gorgeous ... & what a great name for your first one! I approve!!
Saw some red ones in a petshop only yeserday ... didn't know you could get red canaries! :O)
P.S. No need to worry about my cats & your Titchy ... One would yawn & say 'Nah, can't be bothered' & the little one would run away at the first tweet!!

Nice to have you back with us again, Fluff! I understand your computer problems as well. My computer (desktop) broke down in January. Fortunately we still had my wife's "old one" ,(desktop, too), as a couple of years ago she got herself a laptop. She uses it all the time now. I swapped mine for hers but there were lots of things I couldn't do as I had lost some programmes I had installed on mine. I lost all my contacts & favourites from my browsers as well as all my photos & songs. Fortunately I had a 2nd hard drive in the old one & I had been using it mainly for storage. After a couple of months I transferred it to this computer & got back all my photos & music & one or two programmes. :-)

Fluff - just a quick response from me to thank you on your comments about my garden, well yes it is different but today I have really over done it on the terraces, pity nobody took a picture of me, climbing about up down sidewards doing a balancing act, good job I am still agile, but for how much longer? You know I was brought up in the mountains and did climb a few but that was then and now is now. And now I ache all over. Yes Poole is really a lovely town and near such a beautiful beach, did you see on the net "Headline" 10 best beaches in England and Bournemouth came first. No you don't live far a way, but from your fotos I have seen some lovely countryside. That is very nice too. Anyway as long as we have gardens that's the main thing. Lets hope the weather stays fine for a while. Quick response! What a laugh, I know I go on a bit. sorry

Thanks Balcony ... I stupidly let my spyware run out ,,, don't know how or why it didn't alert me to it but a bad virus took hold when I was trying to find song suggestions for a cd I was making up for a party. The music sites can be the worst for letting in nasties & I was unprotected.
I couldn't do anything on it ... one page would load on top of another & it wouldn't even shut down.
For £70 a local man cleaned my laptop up & managed to re-install most of what I had & keep all my photos. I don't know if that was a good deal or not but I had to do something.
I now let my spyware tell me in a very loud voice that my system is secure & I run regular scans! Once bitten & all that...;O)

My wife thinks I'm paranoid about security on the computer but in 8 years only once (the first!) have we ever had a virus on the computer!

We'd been having problems & did a "back-to-the-factory" reinstall. We didn't realize the antivirus wasn't working when we began to experience, what we now know as, DOS, (Denial Of Service), attacks. The computer would boot up (start up) then we would get a warning that it was about to shut down again, then it would turn itself off! Frightening when you have only been a couple of months with a brand new computer on the internet & are almost complete novices!

Fortunately a cousin of my wife who lives in the Canary Islands was able to help us out as they had had the very same experience not long before. So, between reboots & telephone calls to Gran Canaria, we eventually got it sorted out. <<PHEW!>>

Now I make sure my antivirus & firewall are on & up to date. I change my antivirus occassionally & have given a new firewall a spin. I normally use ZoneAlarm for firewall & AVG for antivirus. Antivirus software I change quite frequently. A few weeks ago I had a firewall & antivirus in one installed but I had very little control over the firewall & when the trail period ended I uninstalled it.

It's a minefield balcony ... everyone has their favourite antivirus stuff but it was my fault (altho' I blamed hubby of course as he set it up ;o)) ... I just didn't realise it had expired & I'm sure the poor thing tried to tell me several times but I had switched off the sound as it was annoying! Biggo mistako!!

Ho hum ... we live & learn.

As an addendum to that ... my husband says ... & I quote ... 'you can NEVER be too security conscious where a computer is concerned' ... okay okay ...just cos he got the blame!!!

You can tell him from me that I agree with him 100%! :-)

Ok Balcony ... I guess he does have a point!! :o)
