~ my son who is not that much a bird fanatic as I am is quite bowled over by the bullfinches and goldfinches ~ you have inspired me to get out into the garden tomorrow~ suitably wrapped up to see what I can do!

Hi Deida, yes, she was up there today, still chucking wood chippings out of the hole/holes :-)

I envy you.. such entertainment.could watch her all day.

That's the problem Deida, its a total distraction, lol, the jobs never get done.

Not a bird I get here, I have seen them nearby but never at the bird feeders. Lovely photo Deida.

Dawn some interesting reading about the Great Spotted Woodpecker

Great Spots have been noted regularly to dig out young tits from their own nests holes or nest boxes,and one pair has known to work systematically through a house-martin colony of 35-40 nests,hammering holes through the mud cups and seizing about 100 eggs and young to feed to their chicks
can't believe it......

That is a gorgeous photo, Deida, what a lovely visitor to have. One called very briefly in my garden about a year ago but I haven't seen him since and I didn't get a very clear photo of him :(

How is the weather ....snowing like mad

Very frosty start to the day but bright sunshine since about 9am. There are still patches of snow on the garden and I had to replace the ice in the bird bowls with fresh water. More snow is forecast later in the week but often it just seems to miss us.

Gee it usually misses us but not a couple of weeks ago it did'nt, hope we dont get no more fingers crossed :o))

Well captured Deida, love the colours, we usually see them in early Autumn when they strip all the berries off the Rowan.

Well, if my little rowan tree survives the flood, ice and snow perhaps I will have bull finches in the future :)
