He was really tucking in Morgana , he completely ignored me ..... we have several Holly trees and have learnt from experience that if we don't pick it 6 weeks before xmas and put it in a bucket it will be gone ......

Yes Sid , it would be good if they waited untill after xmas we usually finish up with bare twigs .. ..
They already have a good choice Morgana they eat anything they can get hold of , A sparrow hawk scared them all off for a while this morning , we have spotted it several times lately ......

That is a shame Amy about the sparrow Hawk appearing, I m sure thats what I espied a few months ago, on the tree over lapping my garden, see all sorts of birds here but not many sparrows unfortunately.

The blackbirds are very quick to get in first Carole , I have one that hides under a bush and waits for me to take out the rations and then it follows in my footsteps ... it thinks I can't see it ..
He does look Christmasy Gee .. :o) Thanks TT ......

He knows he's safe Stroller he comes down for his breakfast every day and afternoon tea .. .. Having said that I do know someone who likes a pigeon pie when they have a shoot .......

Lovely picture Amy, really getting me christmassy, my holly which was planted 8 years ago had its first berries this year only a few didn't last long, the viburnums are covered in berries, but birds seem to be leaving them.

That's good Kathy , you will no doubt have even more berries on your Holly next year .. I have noticed the birds aren't so keen on the Viburnums perhaps they leave then until last when theres not much else about .. :o)

thats a great photo..........

Thanks Holly , He can have as many berries as he like Toto .. I just wish I could train them to drop the droppings in someone elses garden , I have little holly trees growing everywhere and in awkward places in shrubs , you can't see them until they get quite big ... .....

Janey , Carole that Holly tree has been full of pigeons and blackbirds today , i'm sure they must know we are going to have some bad weather and are gorging themselves ... there won't be any berries left soon ........

Sorry late to this Amy...just look at that determined face ! Glad you have plenty of berries to go round !

Thanks BB .. There is hardly a berry left since I took this pic. they have been devouring them like crazy , I expect they will start on the cotoneaster next , I wouldn't mind but they still expect all the grain and seed stuff as well and are queuing up for that in the morning and mid afternoon ....LOL...

My husband thinks i'm barmy with all the things I try them on BB , it costs more to feed them than it does him LOL...

Know the feeling Amy..larder full of treats and staples for birds ! Our fridge empty ! Lol

Just bumped into this Amy. Wonderful picture. I'm afraid I am not a good friend of Woodpigeons. As with all birds, I wouldn't harm them but I see them as flying rats! Sorry to be contentious Morgana. They can do immense damage to veg. and as Sid says, they would nick all the food put out for smaller birds if given a chance. We are plagued with them locally and I counted 10 in the top of my Bramley tree this morning. I am watching my holly carefully.

Thanks Ponty , I agree that the pigeons are very greedy ,my Holly trees were loaded before now the berries have almost all gone . , I wish we could stop them but we can't .. .. Some times I even stand outside while the little birds are feeding to stop the pigeons taking their grain and seeds ....
