Still surprising us with gorgeous photos of your garden...I never tire of looking at it.

Directly in front of your barrel is a small plant....is it "baby tears" (I don't know the proper name) that is usually grown indoors?

Yet another fabulous looking corner of your garden ... it's quite lovely.

Hello Wistonlass, yes you are right, it is helixine (baby tears). They are terribly easy to grow as long as the temperature does not drop below -10c. The tricky one will be helixine varigate that will be more difficult to grow outdoors. There are quite a few varieties. Best location is half shade (be careful they don't spread everywhere). I have a few of them in the garden, and have sculpted a small area using them making a wave pattern. Regards, Fabrice

Why does it not surprise me, Fabrice, that you would have these planted up, sculpted to make a wave pattern?....:) You are so creative :)

You demonstrate amazing attention to detail in your design Fabrice. It actually reminds me of HRH Prince of Wales' Highgrove garden in some ways..the evergreens, the secret areas, the way you use shade..it is absolutely superb and I would love to sit in it!

You and me both DD!! What do you think of that variegated leaf....looks like fatsia? Never seen one like that though.....might have to wait until spring to find out!

I've been admiring Fabrice's walled garden almost since I joined....it's a real tonic and a fab design...agree.

Hello Karensusan, Thanks you for your kind comments. Yes it is a fatsia, it is a fatsia fastigata aurea. There is another version that is varigated blue, but are quite difficult to find. I don't know why, because they are doing very well around London. I have another fatsia fastigata which is just next to one of the chairs that is about 3 metres high. I trim it to make a canopy above the chair. Regards, Fabrice

i really like this, what a lovely way you have put everything together, i love the water,
your photos are inspiring me, i too have a shady garden

Your garden is such an inspiration .. I just love how you have taken something plain, such as a wine barrel, & with some very clever planting, turned it into something rather special. Here in the central North Island of New Zealand, we are able to grow Baby Tears outdoors with ease & my local garden centre has it growing everywhere in shady areas, over garden sculptures & big pottery balls & it looks wonderful. I haven't seen that variegated Fatsia before. I will have to keep an eye out for it. I have a large garden & there are a lot of quite shaded areas, especially corners.
