Pinova apple in final home

Took the opportunity yesterday to get my Pinova apple into it’s final home, before the rain arrived to water it in
It’s home is a 16" dia x 16" deep huge clay pot, frost proof hopefully
Here is how it was packed on collection.
There are embryo fruit buds, even though I’ll have to remove most of fruit this year while roots get established
After unwrapping here’s the root system
Here’s the tree in a builder’s bucket for scale. It’s final pot is in the background
Then left roots in soak for hour or so prior to potting
Then into final pot, I used some old soil in base and fresh universal compost for topping and roots. I 3/4 buried an upside down 2 litre plastic bottle, base removed, to aid watering & feeding

Hope not, deliberately bought on M27 rootstock so should be fine
I've seen similar 10 year old ones in much smaller pots

Looks great and I like the shape it grows to as well created in 1965 Institut für Obstforschung Dresden Pillnitz in Saxony Germany . Now belongs to the free state of Saxony. I hope it does well.

Enjoyed the details & photos GG. Which other apples do you have? As it's in a pot a mulch might help?
Hope my two pears make further progress this year, fingers crossed...

Darren, my other apples are Champion, Elstar & a wrongly labelled one which should've been Golden Delicious but is not. It's a nice early apple, but not what I I'd paid for
Had it over 30 years so can't moan now
I've only just potted the new one, so mulch not needed yet as it's lovely fresh compost

Thanks CK, my thoughts entirely, with parents Cox & Golden D it must surely be a winner for taste

Sorry, mulch was the wrong word, I meant a top covering of small pebbles or gravel.
I'm really limited for space but apples in containers, hmmm.... that's my spare pennies spent before I've got them!

Yes, gravel topping would be a good idea I think, help prevent weeds getting hold
I'm same as you for space, which is why I went for the pot idea, needs more long term care of course but, as in my case, you can get to eat an apple you just can't buy in any shop
