Sue (Steragram) gave me this lovely cactus and look at the flower it has produced :)
It has the most wonderful scent, it literally fills the whole garden :)

that is beautiful Hywel. Which cactus is it?

Hywel, I was thinking of you earlier today when I watered my house plants as the Crassula ovata you gifted me some years ago is growing really well.

Thank you all :)
It's an Epiphyllum Eileen
That's good to know Shirley ... was it the coloured one or the green one, I can't remember .

I was given a similar plant to this a couple of years ago from a friend who had lived many years in Brazil. Though it's spent the last 2 years in the kitchen it shows no sign of flowering yet. I believe it should be a very dark red as he has several more plants of these many years old & I've seen them flowering in his conservatory on several occasions.
A small "branch" was broken off & I put it in a small pot & it has rooted & growing. Perhaps one day I will see flowers on both plants!

The dark green one ... thanks Hywel.

What a gorgeous gift and you must really love it. Are many cactus plants scented?

Wow, thats just beautiful Hywel.

Thank you everyone :)
I hope they flower one day Balcony
Some cactus flowers are heavily scented Wildrose, usually the big ones.
I'm pleased to know it's doing well Meadowland, I think it was Aloe aristata.

Yes Klahanie, indeed I was very pleased!
Thank you Hywel - that was very thoughtful of you. Did you notice the wonderful perfume? Mine did really well this year - best yet with ever so many flowers - I wondered if yours would flower this year. I took lots of photos that were meant to appear on Goy, but I am getting so lazy these days... It was sent to me years ago by another Goyer and I'm ashamed to say I can't remember who. He said it was Selenicereus grandiflorus but I don't think it can be because that is one that blooms at night and you have to sit up with it to see it! Mine flowered for days.
Mine didn't have spines!!!

That is a spectacular flower.

Thank you everyone :)
Good to hear about yours Sue,
Yes the scent is very strong, it fills the garden.
It isn't Selenicereus although it did open in the night, but the stems are the wrong shape - they are flat like those of an Epiphyllum and that's what I believe it is.

A beautiful flower and such a bonus to have wonderful scent.

I heartily agree with all comments, it’s beautiful & I didn’t know about some Cactus flowers being scented. A bonus indeed.

some years ago, Hywel, a GoY member, MikeC (remember him?) sent me cuttings of a night blooming Cereus and a cousin gave me cuttings of an Epiphyllum... I still have the cereus but it has never bloomed... the epi looked poorly one spring, and I put it outdoors. it became really dark shaded and cactussy looking and produced the most beautiful deep red flowers. It sulks all the cold winter, but, it's back outdoors for this season so fingers crossed.
