This was my first yr to grow strawberry plants,, i lost two plants a few weeks ago due to wilt, but i cared lovenly for the ones i had left. watched them every day for signs of fruit and was really pleased when it looked like there was going to be loads of strawberries for us this summer. yesterday morning i got up early and went to the local garden centre to buy netting, didnt want the birds to have all the strawberries.
I went out yesterday evening to water all the plants and guess what? strawberries scattered around the garden.
this was all that was left, not even ripe. darn birds got them? nope, our daft dog tay lol. guess she has a sweet tooth. she even looks guilty if you ask me .

We love our pets whatever they do don't we. In my old garden I never had many flowers on my heathers because Fluffy used to run her teeth along all the shoots and spit the little buds out all over the path ! lol. I was left with just bare stalks !

Dont know about pets eating your strawberries,i grew some a few years ago, & every time i got some ripe, the grandkids came & had them, i could think to myself i'll have a bowl of strewberries with some ice cream after my tea, & guess what 1 of the grandchildren would come & when i'd go to get some they had gone.I think the last time i grew them i did'nt get 1 that year, so now im having ago at growing tomatoes, see if they like them as mutch, im not into growing veg, so i'll have to see how they do.Its a good job i love my grandchildren.

Me and my son were having a competition this year to see who grew the strawberries on either side of our veggie plot - well we finally had enough for a bowlful and although he said they tasted "seedier" than the shop ones he was most impressed (and he won!!) I even grew some little alpine ones just to show him the difference in taste but like all men he thought the bigger the better!!!

We have a big fruit cage with Strawberrys Raspberrys ,Gooseberrys , Blueberrys , Blackcurrants ,
You might think that sounds good , but it is the only way that we might get some of the goodies , yes it,s squirrels ,
They tear the net open and then sit on the fence taunting us with their little fists full of fruit , blackbirds then go through the holes to choose their favourites , I am constantly trying to repair the holes ,
I gave the grandchildren Strawberrys in pots to take home so that they could watch them rippen before eating them .
