The Toms from Mums greenhouse were such a better flavour than shop bought last year. She's got 3 plants again for this year and always says 'help yourself love' as she lives alone and can't eat them morning, noon and night ! : o ) )

I liked the idea of the conical baskets with the hanging tomatoes. Hope you get lots of tomatoes! :-)

Last year a stray tomato seed found its way into one of my baskets of Fuchsias, I decided to leave it not expecting it to do very well with competition from 5 Fuchsias & 4 or 5 Lobelias. But it did far better than I expected & produced several decent size tomatoes!!! It was a normal upright variety, too. I've never grown hanging tomatoes.

hi Balcony, thanks ,just goes to show you ..i have noticed 2 toms growing amongst strawbs on plot and i am leaving them alone too..they will probably do better than the ones i am looking after lol, no i have never tried tumblers before so it will be interesting to see how they do ...

I bought 2 tumbler toms today too.I wasn't going to bother this year, but they are so easy to look after,no nipping side shoots out, etc, and very tasty too....and its a woman's privelege to change her mind,so the saying goes ...so I did. Lol.
your baskets are going to look great, and a good recycling use for your old bird feeder....

Great bargains! Best of luck.
If I might make a suggestion.
I think bubble wrap in a grand idea but here's another if u find a florist plastic bag. U know if u buy a bunch of flowers there is a plastic sleeve around them.
( At ease there is here anyway ) If u found one big enough u might be able to slide it over the top of the hook ( upside down ) that way creating a little greenhouse for them to get established or u could create it with the bubble wrap or a clear plastic bag might work, could tape it into shape. Then as they grow u could use a big clear plastic bag over them. Or try it over just one so you can see how one does compare to the other. I find those florist sleeves are great for over a pot to get seeds started or to protect a delicate plant. Hope this is of some help. I love to find other uses for things.

Oh I forgot! I meant to say as the baskets are such a find and so nice I would have lined them with plastic to prolonged ther life. just snip a few holes in the bttom to let the excess water out. As the prolonged watering will eventully rott the baskets.

hi Angie thats a great idea about the flower wrap we do have it over here i may try that ..if someone buys me some flowers that is lol... there is a plastic liner in the 2 hanging baskets if you look at the pic you can just see a bit of white round the edge and i lined the large basket with pastic too but thanx for your tips i never thought about putting a bag over toms duh..:o)
