They are pretty, Kate, and the bees will love them. I have some in pots as soil is alkaline here.

They're very nice, I hope they survive for you. Do they like damp soil ? I bought one recently ...

I do like Heathers...used to grow lots of them....many moons ago....hopefully they will do well for you....

Good planting Kate, you have positioned them with thought, they combine well with the other foliage and surroundings and looks like a naturalistic setting, agree with kilarnie once they are established they tend to be tough as old grans boots, I like to mulch them with old composted pine needles and trim after flowering to keep them from going straggly and woody, and keeping them watered in their first year I find really helps with new heathers.

Klahanie and Julien, much appreciated - I’m taking all the information you’ve given regards heather plant care and implementing it. More to it than you’d think. I’ve tried to put them in areas that are a little moist most of the time as my soil isn’t acidic. Fingers crossed!

I have two Heathers thriving in a South facing gravelled bed which is over tough Sussex clay. That contradicts just about all the conditions required! No idea how they keep going ... :o)

Not all heathers are equally demanding of ericaceous soil. I have several that have been happy for years in pH6.5 on a dry rockery but any less acid than that they wouldn't do very well. Good idea to check the various ones you are interested in on line before you buy.

Mine were buried in the first snow storm and I never saw them again but I love your pics.

I read that they generally need to be in acidic soil, preferably moist... and, tolerant of poor, rocky soil!!
I guess I’ll keep my fingers crossed!
