Dahlia update for Bamboo and Bertiefox

A few weeks ago you answered my question regarding this rather odd Dahlia and I thought you might be interested in how it’s progressing.
It seems to have a split personality because subsequent flowers have looked like this……….
and then this……….
Although there are still some like these
So it seems it’s not sure what it wants to be although one thing it isn’t is yellow with dark leaves like it said on the packet!

What a brillian plant, six for the price of one. Definitely multiple personalities, I agree with Ian

It really is a chameleon! I wonder what actually causes flowers to change like this? Last year our white hibiscus started producing some flowers with a single petal deep pink and all the others, white, then one with two petals pink, etc.
I thought the whole plant was going to go pink and then it returned to white.
No flowers at all this year as it got cut back to the ground by winter frosts, even in the conservatory!
Can't wait to see what happens to your dahlia next year, especially if you keep the tuber and do some cuttings from it in the spring. Anything could happen!!

Well, how interesting, two plants for the price of one, even if its not what you thought it was going to be! I guess, then, the hard green centres to the paler version of the flowers are simply the rest of the petals, which are presumably genetically affected in some way and unable to open. So much for labelling - but it's very attractive anyway.

The full deep pink ones are my favourite but it doesn't produce many of them which is just as well in a way as it's in the red and yellow border! Will plant it somewhere else next year, maybe even take some cuttings as Bertie suggests, although never done that before.
