OUCH I HURT !!!!!!

Gor blimey I`ve got achey joints tonight and YES!! its all my own fault. It was a little too breezy for cutting my front hedge, I really didn`t want to have to chase the trimmings down our road so decided to do a bit of pruning in the back garden..
Ceanothus a few weeks back..
It was above the fence and spreading outwards over the pond so a haircut was neccessary.
Looking at the photo I think it needs a bit out of the centre still but will have another look tomorrow..
Its a third of the size now as you can see by the dry area around the grass but I know from past experience that it will be back again as proud as ever, if we ever get some moisture back in the ground I`m hoping to reseed that area.
My Viburnam..
It was a gift for Mothers Day to commemorate the birth of my Grandaughter and unlike said child who is only thirteen and taller than all of us except her daddy,I decided it was too big, also blocking a lot of light…

Oh boy you really did cut them down to size, but you did a really nice job on them, they don't look hacked as can happen when pruning so much at one time. I had no idea that hibiscus grown in England! Well done, as they are tropical plants and yes, your Lupin is lovely, they don't do well at all here. I recommend a nice soak in epson salts or even a drum of plain table salt and about a half a cup of baking soda.
Happy gardening, ain't it grand.

Well done Sue, pruning is so satisfying even though we know the plant will fight back sooner or later (well nearly always!) Hopefully today the aches and pains are more of a memory so you can go out there and sort a few more of 'em out :o) Ceanothus can get really out of hand and I think you've pruned it just about right. I haven't tried growing lupins for about 30 years, I just remember those huge aphids which love them :o(

Have to say I have had a lazy day today apart from a wander around with plant food and watering cans, its turned windy and cold today so I`m pleased I got stuck in yesterday, I`ve done a lot of garden watching (as you do) and I`m amazed at how many sparrows are here this year, considering they disappeared completely for a while......

Well done on tackling that pruning ... I agree it's hard work but so worth doing. You must be so pleased wih the Lupins ... I'm another who gave up on them ... too many grey looking aphids to contend with! Good that you have Sparrows again ... we have a few early morning ... not so much during the day. : o )

The feeling of relief now the jobs done is great don`t you think. You have really made a good impression with all that pruning.
I have to admit Lincs that my Pampas Grass got the better of me and OH finally gave it the big heave ho a few years back, I just couldn`t cope trying to keep it to a reasonable size.
Hope you have had a more relaxing day today just looking instead of doing.

A lot of hard work there, LL! Never mind the shrubs will be all the better for it & you've gained light & space.

Ohhh! Lincslass... I feel your pain!! But look what a fantastic job you've done of all that pruning, you've let so much light in, and made more room for some lovely new plants! Great job...and well done on the lupin! Isn't it funny what will grow in one garden with no effort at all, but will turn up it's toes and huff in another?! But as you so rightly say 'Ain't gardening grand!'
