Got a phonecall from my next door neighbour just before nightfall, come quick she said and bring your camera…
He/she was playing in her garden, I daren’t chance going outside so had to take them through the window, explains why our dogs go mental some evenings……

The little devil was having a drink from her birdbath and then was playing like a puppy, a few weeks ago it had pinched a chicken and taken it to her garden to eat it, we have never found out who lost their chicken .....

Nature coming close to humans again. The small birds are coming round these flats more this year. I saw a Red
Kite hovering in the sky above yesterday. Am sure the small birds know these wretched predators feed by killing them.

poor kite, its not its fault it is a predator. :) They are fantastic birds and rescued from the brink of extinction in Britain. Pity they dont feed on collared doves, now they are a pest.

I can smell when the fox has been around Lincs, sort of musky smell.
Thankfully we just have a pair of collared doves, I used to chase off starlings but instead of great clouds of them its only two or three, they are such bullys though. Its the magpies that take baby birds more than the kites I think, at least kites take small rodents

oh how lovely. Ive seen a couple of foxes on my walk with Bobby early in the mornings, he tries to chase after them, poor things, they have such a bad reputation, but i love them.

Nice to see them playing :o) I haven't seen one around here for a long time.

Well done on getting the photos... nice to see :o)

Red kites are opportunist scavengers, primarily feeding off animals that are already dead. For their size they aren't particularly powerful birds so look for food that has already died, although they will kill small animals if there is a shortage of ready-dead food around. They can often be seen hunting near buzzards, who do kill for fresh meat.

Sorry Lincslass, I hate foxes. They ruin my garden with fouling and urine. They are here day and night. I can't even let my grand daughter playing in the garden. You can see them everywhere in London, even in my smallish garden. It is nice to see them in the fields, but not in my garden.

Tha darn Magpies have raided one of my Blackbirds nests and also killed Mr Blackie, I've watched over the weeks as the nest building was going on and chasing my cats away from that area so I am miffed, the b.....r did it the week I was out and about, my neighbour heard the racket going on but was too late in chasing it away, I know its natures way and survival of the fittest but its still sad.
Diane we have Red Kites flying over Stamford all the time now, they are as regular as clockwork, they get chased off by the rooks and jackdaws at this time of the year, its just like a dogfight in the sky and can get very noisy, I like to see them swooping and gliding....
Hubby has been down and checked around our sheds because the dogs had started tunnelling into the ground between fencing and shed, nothing untoward now but we think foxy had been there during the winter sometime.

When we were on a caravan site once after a heavy shower, we saw a fox sucking up worms from the ground. The worms were popping up left right and centre and the fox was ducking and diving after them. Never seen anything like that before.
My husband took lots of photos but when we went to pick up the prints (olden days) we were told all the images had come out except for the fox images. To this day my husband thinks they kept them because they were so unusual and so good!! :O)

I well done on your Foxy pictures, Ive seen them on the Bridle path but not in garden!

I'm not keen on foxes, don't mind them so much out in the countryside, but wouldn't want one anywhere near my garden. I'd love to see Red Kites though, that would be thrilling! I love birds of prey and enjoy seeing the buzzards that sometimes circle overhead, I suppose we all enjoy different creatures for different reasons...

Only seen the fox in our own garden once and that was when the snow was on the ground, I admit it was fascinating watching him play like a puppy, I don't wish him any harm but I'd rather he went back to the fields, my daughter is convinced he is responsible for Ollies injury and Harry disappearing...

Good photos!
Much as I like Brer & Frer Fox, though, I don't want them digging holes in my wee strip, hunting for insects, as my plants suffer, besides, the headcases owners of 'dangerous' dogs might get to hear & lay in wait & I really don't want that on my conscience, so I chase the foxes off on a nightly basis.
As for magpies...they're classed as birds of prey.
They usually kill their prey, including their own species, by pecking the head & the spine at the base of the skull, the murderous wee so and so's!
They're worse during the breeding season, if that's possible.

ah she looks as if she is dancing among the dandelion clocks. I sometimes see a fox slinky through our garden but never have a camera to hand.
