So what to do, not cutting the grass yet, I tend to leave it a bit longer between cuts now as summer is ending, plus the dogs still have free reign in the garden, first we have a thoughtful few mins just looking about, I’ve been doing a lot of that lately, I need a change…
The grass is always patchy near the patio wall and the past two summers the dogs have made it even worse, so I decided enough was enough and set to…
Three barrow loads like this and I had a different look altogether, plus one pile of sods hidden away in the cubby at the bottom…Ignore the box in the corner its storage for all the cables that are a neccessity when one has lighting on the patio..
Dug the concrete out of the ground, I guess thats partly why the grass didn’t do well near the wall, so I decided to make a little scree bed ..
I’ve raided parts of the garden for some pavers for the edging, I talked hubby into nipping to Homebase for some weed repressant membrane and some pebbles whilst I carried on breaking up the earth and laying the pavers down along the edge..
Baby rockery plants in place…
However I didn’t like the bluey effect, it didn’t look right, I left them overnight and went out first thing this morning knowing full well the magic fairy hadn’t been and that I hadn’t changed my mind, it was too blue….
Well I weren’t letting that beat me and I couldn’t take the pebbles back so only one thing for it and thats to swap the pebbles over with some off the pond area, lol…
We’re having some smashing days weatherwise and the flowers are still doing their bit..
Couple of weeks back my daughter had asked if I wanted to go halves with some pansy plug plants she’d seen on offer, they’d arrived today and she popped in to deliver mine, 25 babies to bring on, I do love my pansies and viola’s, after dinner I nipped down the g’house and potted them on then stripped nearly all the leaves off my remaining toms, it was still warm out there, shame but I couldn’t see to carry on… Never mind there’s always another day, lol…..

Would love to have that in my garden:)

Well done Sue. It was a tough job, but you really cracked it! Colour of pebbles much better in the end, I agree! :))

Most membranes you buy have drainage Snoop. Semi-permeable...lets the water down, but not the weeds up....in theory! :)

I have lots of energy when I'm outside Sheila, its when I'm stuck indoors that I sometimes feel drained, lol.......
......Kath the trike came from Scripps Garage in the Heartbeat, village, we treated ourselves to celebrate our 40th, in 3yrs time we have to go back again, lol......
......I don't go for pristine Karen but could not leave it like that, I did tell Derek they were wrong when I opened them, oh they'll do he said but he did agree afterwards that it didn't blend, I've got my own back though as I haven't offered him the money, lol..
I did pierce the membrane Steve.....

Oh yes, the second lot of pebbles are much nicer. That's quite a transformation and more character than a bit of patchy lawn (though it didn't look patchy on the photo)
Such a good idea.

You've created a nice bit of interest in that corner Lincs, looks much better..
Garden looks ever so lush too.

I like all those pebbles Sue. Are you going to plant anything in between them ?
You have lots of autumn colour brightening your garden too :o)
Sorry I wasn't able to read it all - the print is too thin and pale ... but I did see 'jigerey-pokery' :D I haven't heard that since my mother's days lol ! She is the only one I've ever heard saying it ... :o)

Now that's a job well done, Sue. It looks much better than the patchy bit of lawn. Your garden is still full of colour isn't it? My OH and I agreed when we moved to our 'retirement' bungalow that the phrase 'it'll do' would no longer be allowed, good on you for not just letting it stay that way.

A very attractive transformation you`ve achieved there Sue, so nice to see you managed to get the right balance without any extra cost - its good when you can conjure a little `jiggery pockery` thats right up my street.lol. Your pond area is looking very good and its nice that you still have plenty of colour elsewhere.

Hywel I have a lot of sayings that came from my mum and her side of the family, lol, yes I will plant it up, its just a case of waiting until my girl takes me to one of the nursery's.. I hope we can find a way of sorting the writing so you can see it better ...

Stera I try not to show my bad bits of lawn when taking the pics, my poor lawns have really suffered this summer because of the dogs piddling in the same spots all the time and our lack of rain, every autumn I have yellowed patches to dig out and replace but that's one of the joys of having pets and it has been grand to have a proper summer...

Thanks Waddy, Scottish and Stroller, its surprising how well the flowers are doing because we haven't had any rain for ages and the ground is solid...

Stroller you've inspired me over the years, I had a terrible area under the weeping willow that I've tried many a time to get some grass to grow to no avail, it leads round the back of the conifers near the bottom pond to what I call my cubby, I considered bark chippings but with two dogs and three cats that's a big no go, I've watched you do your crazy paving and realised that would be ideal for my needs so although not as good as yours I had a go and it looks not bad, lol

So you do the hard graft? Mrs B just likes to sit in the sun & admire the view....My chief mower has gone to China for a year.......Missing her after 2 weeks as she did help out!1. Great splash o' colour

The garden is classed as mine Bill and woe betide anyone who tries to interfere, hubby will help if I get stuck with something I cannot do but he never has liked gardening and its my favourite pastime so works out fine...

That last photo is just gorgeous, Lincs - so much colour.

Its still looking like that T'bear, I nip out daily and deadhead, very time consuming but I'm a dabhand at having my coffee at the same time, lol, s'pose I'll wake up one morning and they'll all be frost bitten....

Sue, I'm staggered! Your energy and imagination are amazing . . . what a star to make such a brilliant change near your patio! Plus the rest of your garden is still looking so colourful . . . absolutely stunning :))
