Escaped from indoors...

I’ve been busy indoors for the last couple of weeks, decorating while the weather is lovely, must be mad!!! anyway the bathroom is finished and now we are working on the hallway, stairs and landing, I hate painting so was absolutely delighted today when I ran out of paint, never told hubby until teatime in case he called in at Homebase to get another tin for me, I needed a break from that lark so decided I deserved a stint in my garden.
First job was to clean the pond filter, down and dirty with that one but to my way of thinking a far nicer smell than paint, anyone who has a pond knows how smelly the silt is so can tell how desperate I was to escape the painting for a while, LOL, had another tidy up session on the raised bed at the bottom, I’d cut the ivy a few weeks back so with that and our lack of rain there were a lot of fallen leaves to collect, did a lot of deadheading and pulling up the spent gladioli, the bed in front of the greenhouse badly needs a good digging over but the ground is absolutely solid so until my autumn flowers are finished I am giving that one a miss, did plant out some new pansies in the little circle and would you believe I even had the hosepipe out to refill the butts…….
The flowers are gradually winding down, looking straggly in places but still a fair bit of colour to enjoy….

Had a lot of flowers on my passion flower and as you can see still getting the odd one even though some leaves are turning yellow..

Then to my surprise I found this little beauty….

To think I threatened Brynner last year when he broke this plant down and it has come along so well this year I am now thanking him….
Michaelmas Daisies……..

New phlox planted this year, bought as little plug plants in the spring and grown on in my g’house and this is the second flush of flowers so very pleased with them….

Delighted to say hubby has forgotten to collect the paint so tomorrow I can be out there again, hope you are all still enjoying your gardens…..

Glad you ran out of paint,Sue,or else we might never have seen your photo's..! Your garden is still looking good, and I love your yellow Dahlia, and Michelmas Daisies too.I must get some of those for next year..I should keep quiet about the paint for at least a week :o)

I also filled my butts with the hose....twice in recent weeks! So glad you escaped outdoors for a while. Decorating really ought to be banned from start of May to end of October!

still lots of colour in the garden, it is lovely to see things in flower for as long as this. I do not think I can remember it hanging on as long as it has done this year. Great to see. :O)

No, me neither Mum, it is a real treat to still have a proper garden in October. It's rained heavy here this morning, and the wind has smashed one of my small pots which was on the table. Leaves all over the lawn, so my waist will be getting another work out with the rake later!

We are forecast it for tomorrow hope it does rain really as the garden is now ready for a drink. Managed to post some pictures, although not sure how to edit them properly as the old editing programme is not available on this new system. Sure I shall get it all in the end. lol :O)

I like your tactics Sue. Aren't nerines a nice end to the season? What is the white flower in the last pic please?

Glad to see how well and how much you got done Lincs, you even cleaned the gunk from the pond ... my least favourite job. Hope Bryner got a reward for his help in producing that lovely orange passion fruit !!!.

Good question Stera! :)

Oh, it says..phlox. It looks like it belongs to the strappy plant behind, but it's stem is nearer the front!

3 Oct, 2014

Looks like phlox to me.

3 Oct, 2014

Yes its Phlox, I also have a lovely mauve one, hoping to get a pink as well as some haven't flowered yet..My daughter spoiled my plans as she had a days holiday so instead of gardening it was shopping and an afternoon spent cooking, just hope we can get all her dinners and soups in the freezers....

The best laid plans, eh? Still, nice to spend time with your daughter, I'm sure. Mine's at the other end of the country now, in Cornwall, so not easy to pop round for an afternoon's shopping really!

So glad you managed to get out into the garden and then shopping and time with your daughter...the decorating can wait until the weather changes and your daughter is far too busy lol! Must say though, despite their neglect while you wheeled the paintbrush, everything looks great! :)

Why are you decorating when you've got such lovely splashes of autumn colour in the fresh air outside ?? lol ;o)
Your garden is still lovely as late as this in the year :o)

I'm still late catching up ! :( sorry about that ...

I would never have guessed phlox - its so much daintier than the ones I've seen - must be another sort. Its lovely.

New ones bought as plug plants in the spring Stera, I grew them on in the g'house and shared with my daughter, have the white and some lovely mauve ones, daughter has pink so we'll split in the future if I don't get any but still hopeful as some didn't flower.....

Thank you for sharing. Your garden still looks grand. I have that phlox and the scent is heavenly.

Your garden is still filled with all the colours I like and I so enjoyed the photos.
Is the pale lemon rose 'Peace?' It is lovely.
Painting is tedious but just think of the end result!!!

17 Oct, 2014

Enjoy the colour before it's too late, the painting will still be there. lol

17 Oct, 2014

Wildrose I think it is Peace but cannot find a label anywhere, I know its hidden away somewhere.
The painting is on hold at the moment as I'm waiting for hubby to remove the old staircarpet, he's at home next week so with a bit of luck we'll get it all sorted then, the garden has taken a right battering in the past week and gone from very dry to sodden and bedraggled, it was however a lovely day today, the fish came up in the pond for food and a bask in the sun and the doves were chasing each other all over the garden, they had only one thing in mind and it certainly wasn't food, lol.....

17 Oct, 2014

Your garden is still full of colour and those roses are putting on a great final show! I also thik the lemon Rose is Peace Im quite envious as I have Peace too but think its gone to sleep early this year.
Forget the decorating Linda ubtil the garden season is over, hide the paint brushes if you must lol

Your OH is lucky - I have to do the painting & decorating at home! We've been having something of a makeover in our flat during this year but, thankfully, it's almost all over - only the new carpet to put down in our bedroom & some curtains to be changed in the kitchen & some other odd jobs to do then perhaps I'll get some peace from decorating & redecorating! I told my wife this is the last time I'm doing any more decorating - next time you want some decorating done - call in a professional! LOL!

As we're very unlikely to ever have enough money to get in the pros I suppose I'll have to do it again in a few years time! LOL!

20 Oct, 2014

Thanks Pansy, its a beautiful rose, I've got more buds just opening, its the red ones in my garden that seem to have gone to sleep....

20 Oct, 2014

Balcony our house got a bit neglected for a while because of work and time spent with helping care for mum and dad in their last years, consequently we are now catching up, I detest decorating and will be glad when its all finished for a while, we have removed the old staircarpet today so painting starts again tomorrow, with a bit of luck we should be finished and choosing our new carpet by the end of the week.....

20 Oct, 2014

Good luck to you! :-))

22 Oct, 2014

Always Homebird and the only gardening I've had time for in the last week is to plant my tulips, I'm suffering mega withdrawal symptons , lol...
