Soggy but now Tidier..

As most of you know I was unable to tackle much in the garden last year, consequently many jobs didn’t get done at all and some were done in small doses, one of them was not netting my bottom pond, big mistake as it was covered in leaves and twigs from the Weeping Willow, the weather not being on anyones side lately meant I wasn’t able to ask anyone else to hoover them up for me either, I know my grandson would have tackled the job if I had asked him but the days never seemed to be good when he was around, as long as nannie paid him naturally, that does sound a bit mercernary to some folk but at least he is willing to earn his money not just expect a handout…. Should have remembered to take a before pic, you could not see the pond for leaves, it took me ages to clear the water, I’ll take my trowel down another day to scrape the moss from the slabs……
Well a little tidier if I am honest but at least it looks better than it did, the plants are already sprouting as you can see and if it stays mild I think the frogs will be getting ideas soon, didn’t want to leave it any longer and have them move back in amongst all the leaves and twigs..
Its not all dull and dark though, there are signs of spring …
Terra gets her chirpy Robin watching her, I get these two, Toffee who as you know is our youngster and belongs to my daughter ..
I tell him to get down so he goes higher…
His best friend, we don’t know who he belongs to but him and Toffee are the best of friends and he comes calling every day…

It felt so good to get down and dirty Paul, I have to be careful obviously, no heavy stuff as yet but I really felt good afterwards and could see where I'd been working, it was a dull day but not at all cold....

I am very happy to hear that you are feeling better Lincs. Take it easy though, you will be surprised how much strength and endurance you can build up just by resting as much as you can right now.

I hope this is going to be a better year for you Sue ! Don't overdo it !
When we had our two cats at Willow Cottage, Minnie went right up into the tree above the pond when she was a baby and had just learnt to climb. Unfortunately she didn't know how to stay up there and fell into the pond below! Luckily no harm done !
Just wondered what size your pond is as the small one I surprised Rick with , I thought was too small and we are thinking of getting a larger one, but I wonder if its because its hidden by lots of surrounding plants and could look bigger if I just put more slabs round ! Something for me to think about without going to the expense of buying another and then, of course digging up the small one !

You always feel good when you have tackled a job like this! It looks so neat and tidy.
I tidied the greenhouse yesterday and had a lovely time out there.

It's nice to see signs of spring isn't it :) I've got such a lot of tidying to do in my own garden, so I'm pleased to hear that you have actually been able to do a bit ...
but I shouldn't grumble, because I always say I like the rain lol
I hope you gat a better year this year Sue :)

Thanks all, as no doubt its the same where you are, the weather has stopped me in my tracks again, so had to carry on with housework how boring is that, lol..

Rose the planting in and around the pond can alter the look, our fishpond looked very small last year because all the Iris were swamping it, we took them out, I also trimmed back some of the plants growing in the bed around the pond, it improved the look immediately and the fish cetainly liked it , I would certainly alter the planting and edges first, see how it goes before taking it out completely, the one you see in the pic is now only for wildlife and my nursery for starting new plants...

It is just a relief to feel you are regaining some authority Linclass, over all those irritating things that happen in a garden when its wet, cold or you are not really well or or too darn busy to get stuck in. Algae, weeds and straggly brown vegetation leaning about and thrashing in the gales. Even tiny ponds make work, as we found when we had one to keep tidy. I have a vague idea about a progressive makeover using grasses, just an idea though.

Dorjac I started a makeover last year down near my Pampas ( illhealth stopped me in my tracks) I did plant two new grasses and was planning more of the smaller ones to add, my intention is to lay a membrane and gravel or granite once they are established, nothing else to start off in pots does well in this particular area so will give the grasses a chance, thinking it will make life easier and hoping look better, I have sent for some seeds, never tried growing fromthem scratch but willing to give it a go.....

Thanks Sue ! I'll try this first, but I think Rick misses his large ponds from Willow Cottage !
