Braving It For The Birds...

Please help me somebody I cannot find my food and the water has disappeared too..
Brynner had no intentions of staying out for long..
Oh heck it was cold and I ended up with hot aches but it was so worth it to see the birds scrabbling around the table and feeders even before I had chance to take my coat off..
Aren’t my baskets attractive, two days ago they looked lovely with primroses ..
Oh look my fishpond has appeared again, I knew it was there somewhere..
,Just in case you were wondering about Harriet, she loves the snow when it is falling, however in her wisdom madam has decided its not nice when its cold on her paws so has been indoors most of the day however Bryner informed her that there was food outside..
What else do you do on a day like this other than watch the birds.
Stay warm all and most of all stay safe….

Hi Sue, I think it's the Russians getting revenge for not being allowed to take part in the winter olympics ??? Derek.

S'gran I tried thawing the baths only to have it freeze again, my clever birds have sussed it out though, they sit on the netting that covers the fishpond and drink from there, clever aren't they, I won't fret now..

Hiya Derek, its nice to see you, hope you are okay, do you know that hadn't occurred to me, lol, according to the forecast, they are sending even more in a few days time...

It all looks very sculptural.

So glad you're doing your stuff fro the birds! Your garden does look very picturesque.

LOL, that's one way of looking at it Linda...

I think most of our gardens are looking like this today,Sue,but at least we are trying to do our best for the birds.Harriet seems to have enjoyed it ,apart from the cold paws bit Lol..I agree, they do look picturesque ,Julia, but let's hope it's a different kind before very long ...brrr !

You had a lot Sue :( Tretcherous weather and so depressing. I hope everyone is all right. Keep safe. Poor wild animals and birds.
I think we're going to get snow tomorrow after the wind changes direction.

I spotted our Blue Tits and Great Tits at around 4pm. That was the only time they ventured out of their roosting spots today. Poor things. I saw a Dunnock trying, unsuccessfully, to get to the feeders, so I went out and threw seed on the ground. I hope she found some!

Yes we have Hywel, its all frozen now and more supposed to hit us again tomorrow, its not nice for people who have to go out, I've only been as far as the feeders and that was bad enough, I've told Mother Nature I have some nice photographs and enough is enough, somehow don't think she is listening. You stay warm and take care ...

Hello Karen, I was thrilled to see some Dunnocks return to my garden this year, whilst watching the birds today I saw movement around my garden well, two little wrens flying in and out of the ivy that grows in it, I didn't manage to get photo but I will be keeping an eye out for them, I was worried they wouldn't find anywhere to nest this year, the wrens have been nesting underneath our waterfall for years as its protected by the Juniper, however Madame Harriet is always going around that bit, nuisance that she is at times...

First time in a week I've seen birds on the bird table, it's so bitterly chilly today, but (no gloat) no snow yet. Keep feeding the birds everyone.

Hi Sue, yes I'm not so bad at the moment, thanks, I think they're far too generous with their weather, it's about the only thing they share, Derek.

I put extra food out and in lots of different places too. it was all found and snaffled quickly. surprised to see the squirrels out and about, thought they'd be tucked up warm and cosy in their drey.
28 Feb, 2018
Oh I bet they were feeling the cold Seaburn, needed an extra boost to combat it, don't get squirrels here now but I don't lose my bulbs so much..Twice I braved the elements for those birds, the blackbirds and my friendly robin were peeking at me through the patio doors, I couldn't resist them so cleared a patch to give them some extra fruit...

Pleased you're doing alright Derek, you stay cosy and warm..

Such lovely snowy photos but what a shame it has to be SO cold!
The birds have flocked into our garden today and we are busy trying to keep up with feeding them. I can hear them outside as I write this! You have done so well for yours.
Hope the primroses are cosy under all that snow - a week ago they would have been enjoying spring like conditions.

My birds are all hiding.

Still it snows, the birds are on a feeding frenzy poor things, fast as I clear a place to put seed down its all getting covered again..
1 Mar, 2018
Yes, same here LL. A blackbird decided to just sit on the plate of suet bites...it was in the shelter of an Ivy. But its all covered over now. I'll replenish it tomorrow. Poor birds. :(

Hi Sue, I've got the heating on full, and whisky at the ready, many thanks for your concern, I hope you're still feeling a lot better, and making a full recovery, Derek.

Hmmmm...whiskey.....hmmm.....might get a Drambuie...I mean....why ever not? lol!
1 Mar, 2018
Derek I'm doing okay thankyou, our heating is on as well, keeping it on through the night this week, not taking any chances of the condensation pipe freezing, don't like whisky so I'll stick to my coffee, lol...
2 Mar, 2018
Hi Karen, whisky is a great warmer, after 5 0r 6 whiskies you can turn the heating off and save money while enjoying a wee dram, ??? Derek.
2 Mar, 2018
Glad you're doing ok Sue, I don't leave my heating on all night, just have it coming on early in the morning,[when the heating effect of the whisky is beginning to wear off, ???? Derek.

Better late than never Sue ! Just found this blog ! Blessed migraines keep me off here ! Just had to comment though as I loved your blog, especially the bit about your two dogs! Our garden looked the same then and don't need anymore snow, do we !
16 Mar, 2018
Hi Rose its good to see you, shame about the migraines as I know you used to like being on here, is there nothing they can do for you...Snow again now but luckily not as much, don't want it either, its doing my head in, trouble is we have to accept it don't we...Keep smiling Rose...
18 Mar, 2018
Always try to Sue ! I do have migraine tablets but don't like to use them as they knock me out and the next day feel really grotty. We have had the snow again, but its almost gone now ! I hope that's the last of it !

Lol Linclass, do you think we only get snow so we can sit and enjoy looking at our feathered friends. OH has been kept busy filling up our fat ball holder. We have had long tailed tits for their first visit this year. The water is freezing over fast. It is quite funny watching them queue to have a bath. There is a great tit who refuses to wait in line and is happy to join any bird already in the water.
