Colour in my garden today...

Covered by a white blanket and since nearly being drowned the flowers are really perking up…
Some of these have been in for years and never produced any flowers before, others were new last year but all are doing well, glad I persevered and didn’t give up on the older ones.
Others showing their pretty faces..
Both ponds are busy with frog activity and the birds are destroying the pampas grass, spring is on its way…..

I too like the primroses S'gran, just wish the birds would stop eating the flowers of the ones that are in the garden, they seem to prefer the bright red ones, never do they bother with the native ones, guess its the difference between Lidyl's or Waitrose, lol....

Nice to see the spring arriving in your garden Sue, after such a cold winter. Everything is waking up. I was surprised to see flowers on your Limnanthes though !

Hi Sue...good to know that some older plants have finally come to life. Love when that happens. I see a celandine? In your pond...mine has also sprung to life suddenly and is showing buds. I hope this next snowy spell is short and shallow!

So wonderful to see so much colour starting to show up in our gardens! ? March is definitely the month for spring flowers! ?
My Crocuses are flowering a treat in the pots, tubs & troughs on our balcony! ? I sooo love it when they come into flower as they have a vibrancy not equaled by other plants! ?

Hi Sue, it's nice to see colour after the snow, it's surprising how quickly things change at this time of year, hope the expected snow doesn't cause too much trouble. Derek.

Hywel the Limnanthes has never stopped, I expected to lose it when we had the freezing temps but the snow must have protected it, died off completely in other places..

Karen Spritz told me many moons ago to have patience with those Hellebores and they would come, just didn't expect to wait nearly ten years, lol, the Marsh Marigolds do well in both ponds, they are very early this year...

I know what you mean Sue. I bought three plug plants of double yellow hellebores and two years later I have one bud. But I think the other two are dead, I can't see them anywhere. Still...hopefully the one flower will be pretty and they will get stronger every year. At the moment its a wonder anything is growing in that Golden border. Its extremely wet heavy soil and its so cold here. Gales starting tomorrow, but its already very windy. I have spent the morning writing for the local paper about the open days. I hope they do an article! So exciting!

Great to see flowers appearing in the garden. Hope we don't get more snow at the weekend tho'.

Hi Linda! I think it will be from the East again, so you might be ok. There's still snow here from last time and loads of mud blown off the fields as well. Everything looks dreadful...all the grass verges covered in a layer of muck. The grass will grow through it eventually, but what a mess.

As you say Karen, the beast from the East is going to take another swipe at us this weekend! Here we are forecast more snow & ice though if we do get any it will probably be very light.

You have a good show there Lincs - So nice that the long awaited ones are finally strutting their stuff. There are such lovely Hellebores these days aren't there. I have a self sown double green one with pointy petals - goodness knows how that happened! Its a wild night here, just for a change...

We have had a reasonable day again today however the Beast from the East is really stepping it up tonight, its gone cold again and there are weird and wonderful noises from the doors, windows and chimneys, Harrriet and Brynner very unsettled, things moving around outside, guess its time to batten down the hatches again and hope for the best, mustn't grumble as we do miss out on the floods thank goodness..

Sorry Derek missed you there, we can't stop it can we so will have to go with whatever we get, I am being sensible though and have held back on my sowing in the g'houses, do hate it if I have to do things twice, learnt my lesson years ago...

Stera that to me would be a treat, bit like aquilegia's, do you know I spent years trying them in dappled shade, all the reading states they prefer those conditions, never worked here for me, start growing them in the centre of the garden in full sun and they've done marvellously, s'pose it could be the fact that we haven't had long stretches of continuous sunshine, even in what is s'posed to be our summertime, lol.....

Balcony I bet yours are an absolute delight as everything is in your growing space....

Hi Sue, no problem, good idea to hold off on the seed sowing, Derek.

Heart warming to see everything coming to life again having coped with every type of weather available!! Nature revovers very well most of the time!
I just wish that we could have a more settled spell of warmer, brighter weather to really encourage everything to grow and me to enjoy it!

So much colour Sue and flowers on your bergenia already :-)

What a lovely selection Lincs spring is on the way :o))

W'rose at the moment we are averaging only two good days during a week, even then its probably rained overnight so still too wet to accomplish anything in the garden, like you I've reached the fedup of it stage, think I've got the February Blues in March :o((
15 Mar, 2018
Yes Dawn, do you know I have two more of them further across my raised bed and they never have produced a flower, very frustrating when they do that isn't it...
15 Mar, 2018
Amy its retreated again, all flowers gazing downwards and very soggy looking today, the poor things have been taking a battering I'm afraid...

Everything looks so Spring like in your garden Sue ! I wish it was here ! I am getting fed up with cold wet weather now! I love your Hellebores , but my favourites are also the primroses. I put a blog on quite a while back about mine which just sit there in flower and have been since October. Never deadheaded them either ! The snow came and literally demolished them, or so I thought, but after the snow went and we had one day of sun, there they were again as right as rain ! Oops shouldn't say " rain" hahaa!

After a spring-like day on Friday it comes as quite a shock to find everything under a white blanket of snow again! I think it's the 3rd time this March! This morning when we awoke there was a little snow covering everything again! In fact, as we are forecast more snow during the night into Sunday, we may well wake up again tomorrow morning & find we are ankle deep in the white stuff again! ?
17 Mar, 2018
Rose its back to winter again now, not as bad as before though, a light covering but never thawed all day, I think its still going to deliver more, luckily a day of sunshine will encourage the flowers to hold their heads up again, we live in hope....
18 Mar, 2018
We did get a fair amount Balcony, I rushed out yesterday to put a cover on my succulents in the bottom g'house , I lost two during that last icy spell, everything else just have to take their chances.....
18 Mar, 2018
Hope your succulents survive, Lincs. We got only a centimetre of snow & even that was blown into "wavelets" by the strong, very cold, East wind from the near continent. So we got off very lightly indeed! No more snow all day even though we were forecast much more last night! ??

It is good to see so many colourful flowers after all that snow. Nothing seems to have come off badly. Your hellebores are really pretty but my favourites have to be the prims. They are no bother to look after and they seem to flower forever regardless of the wind and rain.
