My September Garden...

It looks so much better now despite the fact that autumn has arriived, so much more colour than in recent months, come take a look with me…

Lots of gaps but I’ve planted spring bulbs amongst them, not sure whether to pot the new Chrysanths up and overwinter them in the g’house, would appreciate your thoughts on that…

The long border did well this year despite the drought but has started to go over, I will remove the Cosmos soon but will leave the rest for the little creatures to provide winter shelter for them….

The Acers suffered through the summer from the heat and windburn most lost all their leaves but as you can see they did recover in time to show their colours for just a few weeks, now they are winding down again…. Might have been a sad summer in my garden but its a beautiful autumn….

thank you for taking me down your garden, it has recovered well.
as for your chrysanths, if they look settled in then I'd leave them, but if they look a little unhappy them lift them into slightly larger pots and keep frost free but not too dry. Hopefully next year after planting out in spring they will really settle in and then you wont need to lift them.

M'land, I will grow my Dahlias but hopefully we won't have another year of drought, I won't have the smaller varieties stuck behind the tall ones, I leave them in the ground, normal years I can move them about when they show themselves, obviously I daren't this year because of the drought so they're backwards way on, lol, I've taken lots of photo's so know where they are ready for next year, like you I have decided I won't bother with some, mainly annuals, they didn't stand a chance did they, I need more hardy geraniums, geums and similar, as you know I love a mingle....

Thanks Seaburn. I think I will pot the single stem ones up this year, they were all new and have really struggled to even get this far, better safe than sorry, if they're in the greenhouse I'll be able to keep a better eye on them....

Its looking really happy now isn't it? Very upcheering and a grand mix of autumnal colours. Specially enjoyed the Rudbekkias (spelling???) because all mine disappeared and I do miss them. Your little grey pal is so beautiful - can you pass on a couple of cuddles from me?

Thankyou F'few, after so many losses during the summer its nice to see all the autumn flowers, the edging is to make life easier for me, when cutting the lawns I just run the mower over them, cannot do a neat edging without them, mind you some need sorting out as the dryness has caused the ground to shrink, its a bit higgle-de-piggley now, that will be a job for next year though....

Hi Stera, as you can see my Rudbekia have really done well, in fact all the autumn flowers are doing me proud, I go around every day deadheading, I'm hanging onto them as long as I can...That is Pepper, loves lots of hugs, follows me everywhere, I call her my little shadow, she was Catherine's little girl, (my sister) I promised to always look after her when Cathy was in hospital, its almost as though Pepper thinks I will disappear as well, it was three years yesterday since we lost her, still lonely without her Stera, I have to keep myself extra busy at this time of the year....btw , Harriet was asleep inside, she only helps when I'm picking up the apples...

I have always loved looking round your garden Sue!
Lots of colour too! You have so much interest in it too.
I have an aster which I thought I had lost in the summer , but since coming home from Norfolk it is now in full flower and doing really well, but am considering moving it into the main garden with a few of the others where it wouldn't be in full sun all the time.

Thankyou Rose, I like the fact that I have hidden spots that cannot be seen until one walks down the garden , I was relieved to see my new Delphiniums sprout again, the blue I've had for years but added two more in the hopes I can hang onto them, even though tiny one still produced a second flush of flowers, will you move the Aster now or wait until next year, I'd be tempted to do it now as the ground is still warm enough for it to settle, I have Hellebores to move now the soil is holding onto the moisture, its still all go Rose, I'll only stop when I have to wear a jacket all the time.....
How are you doing now as regards walking, bending and suchlike, no lasting problems I hope xx

Hello Klahanie and thankyou, Mother Nature has done me proud after nearly ruining my summer garden so I have forgiven her. Pepper is my little shadow, never far from me, she doesn't help just waits patiently.....
