The Cairngorms in the snow.

I am just back from a trip to Elgin painting a portrait for a whisky company……sadly no free bottles. The trip back was amazing. A winter wonderland. I sat in the front seat of the car and clicked away with my camera. I will use one picture as my echristmascard……to follow. I had been told to look out for the deer that come down from the mountains at this time of year….you can just see them. It was difficult at 60 mph to catch a photo of them. :o)

Oh so cold and misty! I remember seeing reindeer on the Cairngorms years ago - never realised there were any "on the loose" in this country.
I'm looking forward to seeing your portrait too.

The guy I am painting told me to look out for the deer. I was so excited when we saw them. Elgin is great for red squirrels too. We watched them each morning as we had breakfast. They are so cute.

Lovely shots of a chilly winter scene, evocative with the antlers against the sky.......

Thanks guys....I know I am very lucky to make a living from something I really enjoy. I have other photos of the deer but they are a bit far away but dark against the snow. I had the camera on sport....the second I saw them I pressed the shutter and hoped for the best. :0)

Great shots of beautiful scenery - well captured!

Actually, these are native red deer Karen. There is a reindeer herd on Cairngorm but they have thicker horns. In fact, representatives were at our village primary school Christmas fair on Saturday. The red deer come down from the hill for food when the weather gets too bad.

You are right BH they are red deer....quite different from reindeer but great to see in such large numbers.

The Highlands are amazing at the moment, Linda, just as long as the road was clear. The distillery companies, including D....., have to be careful about giving bottles away these days, not as it used to be :-))))
