My son and five chums have a new veg plot near where he lives in Harrow-on-the-Hill.
They are all novices but are very keen.
Mike’s partner, Iris, works at Ham House, a wonderful National Trust property and has been given help any plants by the head garden.
Their biggest problem has been foxes digging up their veg even though Mike made a mesh frame.
It has been a slow start with the cold weather but as soon as the sun comes out I am sure their veg will thrive.

That looks nice, it's good that your son has some friends to share it with :)

The group is-
An architect, a chef, a college technician, a carpenter, a buildings conservator and Mike head of workshops in Painting at the Royal College of Art.
If they can’t dig a straight line, build a raised bed and structures then cook some beautiful vegetables who can?

They should do well between them :)

That's a very rewarding endeavor Linda and I hope there are many. There are products available to deal with the foxes - citronella being one. I have to deal the the raccoons.

Thanks everyone for your comments. They are very keen and strong. I could do with their digging power. I will tell Mike about the citronella.

Bathgate- Mike wants to know if it is a plant or liquid you use? If it is a plant which one?

Citronella is a tropical grass, but you can grow it in pots. It has a citrus fragrance like lemongrass. The oils are extracted and used as a pest repellent.

You can buy it as a spray from Amazon- you can spray it on his marking places or tracks. You might also try Silent Roar
(lion poo to you) which repels cats but I don't know about the effect on foxes. If you find a Citronella plant be aware it is not hardy and must be brought in over the winter.
