Out in the sunshine.

Early yesterday we went to Elvaston Castle. An old property in grounds set with old trees and a topiary garden. The old house is empty and needs plenty of work doing inside. I don’t like to see these old places just left. there is so much that could be done to restore them but it all boils down to money in the end, I suppose. So much history under that roof. There are two ponds, and Gerry and I walked about 3 and a half miles, then came home for a cuppa. Today I’ve watered all the pots, and have noticed that my cosmos seeds have sprouted, so hopefully in a week or two I will be able to single them out into separate pots. The peas have germinated too. I’ve had a good general clean up outside and have been throwing out a few things from the shed……that aren’t used any more. We went to the river gardens earlier on and the goose that we normally feed, flew towards us making a lot of noise, and landed on Gerry’s feet…LOL. Anyway make the most of this lovely warm weather and good gardening….Linda x

Hi SBG. It's lovely to see the new growth and I love transplanting the seedlings when they are big enough into separate pots and watch them grow.

I 've just looked at the photo's because the name was familiar Lindak, the gardens look absolutely amazing..
I do like to see the geese but admit I'm always wary of them, I suppose its because we usually have dogs with us now and before that it would have been grandchildren....

I have been watering today too both in the greenhouse and outside. It is surprising how quickly the pots dry out even in March - but then it has been surprisingly warm!! My Cosmos are growing fast too, unlike my sweet peas which always seem rather slow!!

Glad to hear your seedlings are doing well Wildrose. Yes I agree. extra watering with this warmth. We've certainly had some lovely weather for the time of year.
Hi Linsclass, the geese here are alright with people but this particular goose knows us and that we feed him and he gets all excited, makes a lot of honking noise, and isn't aggressive at all, it's just that he doesn't judge his flying distance very well before landing in front of us.

It's great to see everything growing now, isn't it Lindak!
I start everything off in the conservatory and then transfer them to my little green house and apart from tomato plants, everything is in there now!
Your walk sounded lovely!

Yes Rose it is, our Ribes and forsythia are fully open now and I've started cutting off the Tete a tete daffodil flowers. They have been really good this year. It's a good space to grow plants using the conservatory.

Sounds great Linda! We haven't been for a walk for ages. I hope you did have something to feed the goose with! Its been such a lovely day today hasn't it? I've got behind with my sowing but did get a few beans in today.

Loved reading your blog, Linda. Such a shame you couldn’t post any pics. I’ll google Elvaston castle and gardens and have a look.

Yes Sterra, we take seeds and pellets for the wildfowl. There are lots of robins over the park so they get some too. I hope your seeds grow well for you. We must make the most of this fine weather as it's going to get cold again next week. Take care.
Thanks Kate. They used to hold the steam fair at Elvaston, years ago. I love the old steam engine rollers.
