The weekend I've had

Just thought you’d like to know what’s been happening to me the last week. Firstly went to opticians on Tuesday. Both hubby and myself. Got a call from them on Thursday , to say my specs were ready, but not hubbys. Thought it was pointless just picking up mine, so told them I’d wait for both of us. Friday, I had to get Granddaughter and take to friend,so she could go to playgroup. Thought while I was out, I’d do a bit of shopping. I got home to find hubby had gone up Daughters to mow her lawn and check on weeds. The bottom of her garden, tends to suffer with knotweed, so he wanted to check weedkiller was working. He returned as I was putting shopping away, and said the Opticians had phoned to say all the specs were ready. It was just passed lunchtime, and I thought about being able to park in Swansea City centre at that time on a Friday. He decided to come with me so I could jump out of car and get specs, failing we could find parking space. On the way home, I decided to go to B+Q to see what they had in plants, (maybe reduced). Because of this hubby changed lanes to use another route out of the city. As we were approaching a set of traffic lights, hubby said, “I don’t know, seems engine is starting to overheat”. As we stopped at the lights the guy in a car to the left of us, pointed to my cars bonnet. As we looked down we could see what looked like steam. Hubby said as we went through the lights, get ready to pull over, switch engine off, get out of the car as fast as you can, and phone the Emergencies!. I thought he was off his head, LoL. My goodness, I did what he,d said, by the time I got out of the car, my bonnet was so smokey you couldn’t see. By the time the fire brigade arrived, which only took a few minutes (cos where I’d stopped was only up the road from their station), my poor car was billowing smoke and flames from the engine. We had to stand around a corner because my car was gas converted, and they were afraid they might not be able to contain the fire before putting out. Plus they couldn,t open the bonnet, so they had to use a crowbar. We had to leave the car with the policeman, and have a Taxi home. I phoned the insurance company as soon as I got home, only to find I would not be entitled to a courtesy car, as my car would probably be written off. So for everyone of my GoY friends, check insurance policies, because they tried to tell me that although I’m Fully Comprehensive, I am only entitled to a hire car, if I have an accident. In which case, a garage or whatever will end up with the repair job. I have now had a courtesy car, but that’s because I have Legal Protection on the policy. So basically, had I not taken the extra cover, I wouldn’t have got the hire, and the biggest laugh is, my car hasn’t been assessed yet! Well, after a number of phone calls on Saturday, I gave up and went into the garden, to find hubby with my sunflower in his hand. when I asked him why he’d cut it, he said he wanted to show our Granddaughter where the sunflower seeds we buy for the birds come from.

She was amazed when hubby started pulling the flower apart, but to his dismay, he thought it had no seeds, and that he had cut it too soon. Only, when I looked, did I see that the seeds were still in their bed. When I showed him, he laughed, because he hadn’t realised, he thought they should have been at the end of the centre petals as he pulled them out. So I told him, technically, he was right, it’s just they don’t come out that easy. So both hubby and Granddaughter, carried on digging them out, until Granddaughter had enough, as her finger was hurting. Lol. They had quite a few, but didn’t have a dish, so they put them in the frizby.

Then Sunday, I went to check on my blueberries as some were turning blue, and I wanted to pick them before the birds had a feast

Hubby said he’d sort something for me. Imagine my shock when I saw a giant magpie sitting in my bush.

Imagine even more, when I went to peg washing out Monday morning, when I met his so called Scarecrow.

I don’t know about Scarecrow, but it scared the life out of me, and it’s most definately a crow. LoL.

All he did was invite more crows. Lol. but i did manage to pick a few.

Oh what a laugh! Our daughters had a similar fire like that once. Fortunately only the electrics burnt out and were fixed. Firemen advised never use water, only foam on such a fire. How does one know? I wonder what sort of scarecrow would frighten off the jackdaws in our garden?

What a day for you, but you're right about insurance policies. I had my two cars stolen off the drive one night and because they had been stolen I couldn't have a replacement and had to wait "carless" for 7 weeks until the insurance company finally paid out - and what a fight that was to get some decent money to replace them. Apparently this is the norm for fullcomp policies.

It must be the season for car fires ! we were walking past the entrance to a multi storey car park on Saturday , it was full of fire engines and equipment , a young girl told us that a car had caught fire inside ...

All's well that ends well , the main thing is that you weren't hurt thanks goodness .. :o))

Thanks everyone for your comments. I had a very interesting day Alice Lol. :o) SK. The birds planted the sunflower for me. I notice I have another one coming up as well. I pulled them out of various pots, but I missed these two. They must have felt sorry for me, buying sunflower seeds for them. lol. How's the puppy? feeling at home now, I bet. :o) I was about to shout joanella, but then I thought it would keep them from under my feet. lol. :o) We think it was electrics with us. Lyn. Hubby went to have a look, he said all you could see in the engine were copper wires, as the rest of the engine was burnt out. The main worry was the gas tank in the boot. I'd only filled it up the day before. I dread to think what would have happened if that had gone up. :o) Trouble is Kfunsters, basically I hadn't read our policy correctly. When I take the insurance out, I always make sure my insurance covers everything., and I always have fully comp no matter how old my car is, as my hubby has health problems and I can't be without a car. The last few years I've also taken Legal Cover as well, for fear something might go wrong, cos I'm the main driver and it would be just my luck. It's through the legal cover, I've had the hire car, otherwise would have been like you. carless :o) Yes, thank goodness we weren't hurt Amy. Lucky hubby came with me. Don't know what I'd have done had I been on my own. :o) Lol. Sixpence. He said he was getting owls as a deterrent, but gave the crows and magpies open invitations. Lol. :o)

Thankyou Grandmage. Yes we were fine, just shock of it really. I was upset at the scene, to think if I'd been on my own, whether I would have acted so quickly. As you said, it was nice to watch hubby and granddaughter doing their thing in my haven, seemingly miles away from everything. :o)

Oh Linda what a day you had,I have had to re read parts as I was rushing to make sure you were both safe, it must have been very scary, and then the hassle with the insurance company, but so relieved all turned out well [ apart from seeing the head cut off your precious Sunflower and the fright the birds must have given you perched among your blueberries, its a wonder you didnt have to take a sedative !!

Lol. Pansy. Thanks for comment. Yes it was scary. I've been thinking to myself, if I had of been on my own, I wouldn't have puulled in so quickly. I would have probably waited, thinking I was seeing things. Having said that, neither my hubby nor myself noticed in the beginning. It was the driver in the other car that caught my hubbys attention, to look towards the bonnet. If I had been on my own, I'd probably have been concentrating on the lights. Yes the insurance companies hassle us, I think they enjoy it. The lady on the phone on Friday, said she would put form in post immediately, on receiving it, sign it, enclose registration documents, and return as soon as possible. Today is Wednesday, and still no letter. Yet she had the cheek to tell me, that if they didn't retrieve my car from the police storage yard a.s.a.p they would be charged for them holding it. Which to me, I didn't need to know. Far as I was concerned, I pay the premium, it's their job to do the work. At least that's what I thought Fully Comp meant. At that time I didn't know where the car was being taken myself, and as soon as I did I phoned them. As for taking a sedative. Lol. All I wanted to do was scream as loud as I could. Lol. :o)))

And why not? It relieves stress - and you've had a lot of that. Just make sure that nobody is within ear-shot - you don't want the police being called out, do you? LOL.

You have my sympathy - and I'm really pleased that nobody was hurt...it's only a metal box, after all....

28 Jul, 2010

Thankyou Spritz. It does relieve stress, but I end up with a sore throat. Lol. And I most definately don't want the Police called. I would die of embarrasment, for fear the officer that responded would be my Son-in-law. Lol. Yes you are right, it is only a metal box. :o)))

This is to say, I have just been having a lesson about birds (the feathered type) with hubby.Lol. He said he was going to put Owl decoys in the garden, but had taken them up my Daughters to protect her grass seed. You are right Sixpence, a bird of prey would be a good decoy. It would attract the crows etc. but they won't land in the garden. The decoy would need to be on a fence or in a tree, and needs to have shiny eyes, as it's the eyes that scare them. You also need to periodically move them around whatever you're protecting at that time. Hope this helps you Simplylyn. :o)))
