A sunny autumn day in Moray

After the dire weather earlier in the week it was a glorious autumn day, having had a ‘just barely’ frost overnight. Mr MB needed a new leaf vacuum as the old one had just about given up the ghost and the leaves are still falling thick and fast (yippy!). So it was off to our local city Elgin to visit B & Q, have to go on a Wednesday to use the Diamond Card – means that all the other OAPs are there too :-))
On the way back we stopped at a car park near the A96 for a mug of tea and to admire the autumn colours. Whoever laid out this car park took a lot of time and effort and it was well worth our while to wander around mug in hand, camera round neck.
A general view of the parking area showing the variety of different trees and shrubs
The mountain ash or rowan, Sorbus aucuparia – what a feast is waiting for the birds!
I’ve no idea which of the yellow berried rowans this is. possibly Sorbus ‘Joseph Rock’. but we took some seed home with us :-))
This ‘might’ be Sorbus hupehensis a pale pink berry – again we collected some seed lol
Whilst I ‘think’ this darker pink one is Sorbus ‘Pink Pagoda’ – love the dark red of the Cornus.
The pampas grass makes a striking feature at this time of year.
Sorbus ‘Wisley Gold’ – at least that is what I am guessing :-))
A superb pyracanthas that’ll keep the burglars out it you plant it under a window (and the window cleaner too!)
Feel free to tell me I’ve got the wrong names on the sorbus… I know the ones in our garden but not every sorbus. I’m just impressed that the local council had gone to such trouble to create a lovely little area to park in completely off the road and with such a variety of shrubs and trees!

Great pics...and a lovely blog Mrs MB :)) Hasn't autumn been lovely this year? The colour changes have been fantastic! Sadly, not much left on the trees round here, after the high winds at the weekend.

Hi all thanks for your comments - not at all bad for a car park Joanella... sitting in the car park at Tesco Mt MB asked if we were not going to have our flask of tea - I reminded him there were better places to drink :-))

Lovely!! What do gardeners with Diamond Cards do, apart from going to B&Q on Wednesdays? Go to (get) seed, of course! What a great carpark this is. :-)

Hi David the Diamond Card gives the holder 10% off everything in B & Q on a Wednesday... added to that the leaf vacuum was at a special price for the day so all in all a bargain! Love Micky and Minnie!

I know, I always take my dad with me, and only shop at B&Q, on Wednesdays - not a Fifer for nothing, after all lol!!! A bit cheeky, really.
Will show M&M later in a pic, with explanation! :-))

There's a thought, Sanbaz, can I get a leaf vac to work off the cigarette lighter in the car? Have to work on that one, could be worth a fortune in royalties!

Is a car park one you can drive around rather than walk to admire? Good to see plantings for wildlife co-existing with our needs for roads/ cars.

a parking area orgratis, we call them car parks either at shops or malls, or even somewhere in the countryside, its just the area to park your car where ever you may be :o) think you call them parking lot!

That's nice - having a mug of tea out in the open air. We often do it.

I'd often like to plant my car to see what would grow! lol. Thanks for the translation :)

Maybe we should go down to the local car junk yards with bags of seed and soil and start using up the nasty leftover cars people throw away all the time???
Lovely shots, thanks for sharing!
