After the Storm!

Yesterday afternoon we had the most horrendous storm! Thunder and lightning was continuous with sheet lightning amongst the clouds and forked lightning over the mountains – it looked like a sci-fi movie out there!
Then – a break in the clouds, the sun broke through and we had the sight of this magnificent bright rainbow which also reflected on the clouds, so it was a ‘double’ rainbow. The birds came out of hiding and started hunting around our garden again and all was right in our little piece of Paradise.
I always feel that rainbows are ‘magical’ – even though I understand the scientific reason for them.

I love a thunderstorm. B hates them - they make her a bag of nerves. Funny thing this evening I just told her I would rather have 10 thunderstorms than one day of snow. She disagreed lol
I love the 2nd pic :) It's beautiful

I agree with you Hywel, I love thunder storms, but my poor Mother was terrified! As for the snow I can't stand the stuff it's a real nuisance!

Great photos of the rainbow, Nariz! :-)) We haven't seen any rain here in the last two months! Even the in Spain the weather "behaved" itself. We only got wet our last day in Cuenca when we had 3 or 4 small, for Cuenca, thunderstorms that didn't leave much water. When I was last there in Xmas/NY 2010 we had a tremendous storm that left an awful lot of water, overflowing the rivers that run through Cuenca!

Woken up to clear bright blue skies today so, hopefully, no moe storms! I think the garden was almost screaming for mercy with all the wet!

its never right were we are is it... my first reaction is " lucky you, my garden is screaming for mercy with the drought" , we can see lots of storms around but they all seem to bypass us, lots coming from your direction with much flashing and rumbling at night.

We are having a VERY windy day today here & about 6pm we even has some spots of rain! That's all it was, now at 6.30pm, the street is almost dry. This morning the allotment needed watering again even though I thought that Saturday's watering might get me a few days grace - no way I had to do a lot of it again!
When I got home I had to start watering the plants on balcony as well! Everything dries out so fast with the wind. I have a lot of new planting from last week so I can't let them go for a day or two or I'll lose them.
Managed to get some more bush Lobelias & some more Petunias to finish off the planting on the balcony. I'm putting the Petunias in the clay pots on the balcony railing & I still have 2 pots to plant up & 1 that's missing a plant. I'm putting 3 Petunias in each of the clay pots & in the hanging baskets, I've still got 2 to make up, I'm putting 4 or 5 bush Lobelias around the sides & 5 Busy Lizzies in the top with a Geranium in the very centre of each basket. Unfortunately each Geranium is different, not just in flower colour but in the leaves as well! Several are variegated - no 2 are the same! I lost the majority of my plants over the winter this year so I've had to make do with what I have to hand! I'll eventually put some photos up.

Look forward to seeing the photos, Balcony. I love geraniums (pelargoniums) in all their guises and was devastated to have lost so many in the winter of 2009, but my stock is gradually building again with regular cuttings.
