Super garden Mareli - welcome to GoY, look forward to seeing more pix. Interested to see you've got the rhododendrons in full sun - I've always thought they like semi-shade and that is how we grow ours.

You have a beautiful garden which shows the love and attention you both give it. Well done and welcome from me too. Great pictures, thanks for sharing with us

To Moon grower - the rhododendrons you can see do struggle a bit as that part of the garden is not so shady although they are near a golden birch, but below them on the right-hand side is where the better rhododendrons and camellias are and this gets almost no sun and they love it there. However, in a dry period, my husband keeps them going with soft water from a water butt. I will download photos of this area soon.

Fantastic garden, do you open it? I mean yellow book. It's so neat, yet not regimented, lovely balance :-)

To Bornagain - we have won prizes in local garden competitions in the past and a few years ago, it was opened on a couple of occasions in aid of the local community centre but it takes a lot of extra work to open a garden and not forgetting the extra cost as you feel you have to fill in any bare spaces. However, I must admit all the favourable comments did give us a lift - something like joining GOY! Thanks again everybody.

Mareli we know just how much effort it takes to open your garden to the public... we only do it for the local church (even though we are not church goers!)

Your garden looks really lovely, ordered without being "prissy". The design is great, did you do it yourself Mareli?
You are one of my favourites!

To Mad,
Thanks for all your comments - the garden wasn't designed, it just evolved over 46 years, through dogs and two sons and finally retirement. We first of all had a lawn that ran the length of the garden with the lower section being converted into a putting course for our sons with the aid of small baked bean tins. Then the lawn in the narrow part didn't grow very well because of the tree shadow and was replaced with gravel. The middle part was gravelled to follow this through after about another 3 years and the bottom part was gravelled after the lawn mower packed up and our sons had left home. I think we have now arrived at a design that suits us and the only thing that will alter in the future is if any of the structures fall down as they won't be replaced due to our age!
