Couldn't resist this Euphorbia today, with its dramatic purple foliage and lime- green bracts in early spring....:o)

That is such an interesting plant...how big does it grow? I have to be mindful of available space.

Thanks girls, the label says 28ins high Jacquie, a lot taller than the couple I already have, not sure about the spread though I would think a large clump over a few years....is yours Amy?
I really like them for early spring, just when things start to awaken, and these begin to unfurl their new growth...:o))

Mine was new last year Janey , the label only tells me it will grow to 1- 2ft high ,nothing about it's width , typical evergreen , flowering period April / May , we will be able to compare notes next spring .. :o))

Euphorbias are great aren't they. I never know what to do with them when they get straggly though. Can you cut them back?
4 Nov, 2010
We grow this one Karen but I do not cut it back like I do the larger varieties, it usually dies down in the winter.

When you cut back the big ones, do you cut the stems right down to the ground Daisy?

Oh nice....

I don't bother to cut them down Karen , as Dd says they die down of their own accord ..
A word of warning i've been checking them out in my book and it says ... ' All parts are poisonous . In addition the milky sap can cause severe skin irratation ' .. so be careful !

Will do Amy....Mum used to have a weeny Euphorbia on her rockery when I was a child, I loved picking the lime-green stems, and watching the milk ooze out....never tasted it though as it smelt bitter like dandelion sap.
