Thanks everyone , it's so nice to see something emerging after all this dull weather ...
Carole the black things you can see are the onions seed husks that have been pushed up with the seedlings , they will fall off as the onions get bigger , they do look a bit strange like that .. :o)

My neighbour has had his sweet peas in since the beginning of Dec. Angela , he grows them for shows if i'm very lucky I get his left overs that he hasn't room for .. ;o)

Lovely Amy, thought Ailsa Craig were tomatoes, lol. Nice to see young, new shoots, seems so long since it was last Spring.

It is Janey ... .. you are right Dawn , it's strange but the name is the same for both the Tomato and onion I had to go and check , I wonder why they should do that ? it's like calling an Apple and a Pear a Bramley !!!

they look nice and healthy Amy. We don't have much success with onions so grow leeks instead. Gerry is deep digging the veggie plot (small as it is) and finding an awful lot of stones and bricks. We are filling in with compost them covering over to try to give the soil some richness. Perhaps the veggies will grow better this year.

Linda ,we have good years and bad years with onions , sometimes they suffer from onion fly even though we rotate the growing area , the same with leeks which I love they are so useful in the winter , they often bolt and go to seed , it's pot luck I think on the growing conditions that year ... it sounds as though Gerry is making a good job of the soil , good luck ,I hope you have a good crop this year ...

I tend to buy red onions now as you can eat them raw or cooked without them being too strong in flavour. I love leeks in stews and mashed with potato then fried.
