This is a raised bed beside a gravel path. It's one of the hottest parts of the garden.

Gosh Annella! That was quick! I've just posted these! I was just thinking, I think this one is from about 2003, they're just shots I've cobbled together from over the years!

I can imagine you spending hours keeping this all looking so beautiful. I do especially like this small corner of your garden with the rockery and the trellis behind, Libet. How big is your garden? It looks to be acres and acres :)
Your garden is so large....do you open it for people to visit? If not, it is certainly up there with the beautifully formed gardens worth a visit.
Have you a close up of the garden seat you built (not sure what to call it)? It is the seat that had the reclaimed roof tiles, all put together by your talented hubby. It looks so lovely from what I can see in your other photos, Libet.

Thank you TT! It reminds me a bit of your garden!

Hello lovely Whistonlass! My goodness...you're going to have my ego the size of Lough Neagh if you carry on like that!!:0))) lol! Thank you for all your kind comments, but the garden is nowhere as grand as you might think! The back garden is about a half acre, and I work more towards the house end, so I suppose it would be about a third of an acre. It slopes down, away from the house, but the weird thing is that the lower bit can be as dry as a bone whereas at the top of the slope, the ground can be absolutely soaking!! We do have our suspicions that there is an underground spring, because there is a well at the front of the house, right under the sitting room window, and we think it's being fed from the back garden! The spring makes for 'interesting' planting, because it dries up quite well in the summer, so I can't plant anything that likes constant wet, but then when it rains a lot it can get very boggy and that puts all the other plants at risk! And you know, the picture above shows the hot raised border which is only about six steps away from the boggy one!
In answer to your question of opening the garden, I think I might die of fright!! I don't think anyone round here would be too interested anyway, but it is very flattering of you to think I could!! :0))lol!
I have tasked Keith with the job of looking up some pics of the, well, we grandly call it the arbour, to post up just for you! Part of the problem with a lot of my photos are that they were originally just 'snapped' by me for reference, and lots of them have big orange trugs or tools scattered about, or a jobs only half done, so they look a bit messy... so you'll just have to forgive me!!
Well, Whistonlass, I'd better stop before I bore you to sleep! I could chat gardens all day! :0))) Thanks for being interested! More pics to follow!

I'll look forward to the photos, Libet....whenever you can manage to put some up :) You should be very proud of your garden....it is a beautiful space...I think you'd have a host of people who would enjoy visiting it under the Garden Scheme....drink up the compliments, they are well deserved.
It will be good if Keith manages to find the pics...and don't worry about the ones that show some messy bits...it is great evidence that you've brought the garden into life by your toil and effort.
Have a wonderful weekend...hope the sunshine will continue here for us...off to my first plant fair on Sunday and will be meeting Sanbaz and her hubby for the first time...all quite exciting :)

This is simply stunning. I agree with Whistonlass, your garden appears to be huge from your photos! Is the yellow flower Coreopsis "Moonbeam?"
26 Mar, 2011
No, Lauram, honestly it's not huge! Thank you for that lovely compliment! That was well spotted on the coreopsis, but it's not Moonbeam, it's C. verticillata ‘Zagreb’, it grows to about 1ft, but is a much brighter yellow, it's very reliable, and even when it does stray it is easily 'weeded' out! I still have this plant, it would be about nine years old now, and it seems to like the hot raised bed and sharp drainage. Moonbeam is on my wishlist though, I think the softer yellow would be lovely!

nice Liatris also!

Thank you Lauram and...oh no, another plantaholic! I still have this plant too, but it keeps moving around the border, I never know where it's going to pop up next! Keeps me on my toes!

Lucky you to have a sunny dry area, I mostly have shade. Well, we all want what we don't have, don't we? I may be getting more sun sometime soon as a pear tree near the house really needs to come down; the plants currently in that spot need to be both sun and shade tolerant as they are in shade for much of the day but during the hottest hours - and this is Georgia, so think HOT - they get full sun. I keep relocating plants but I'll get it right eventually! I find in that area a difference of just a foot or so in plant placement can result in a tremendous change in performance; my New England Aster near the front of the garden does beautifully but the one planted less than 2 feet away (it gets more shade) struggles.

I love the purple sticky up flowers, what are they called, Libet?
18 Apr, 2011
Hello Minihoney! That purple plant is 'Liatris Spicata' It likes that sort of sunny well drained site, I've found it can die out in one place and then pop up in another! Never know where it's going to come up next!

Hello again Dwyllis! How are you feeling now, it'll be a while before you get over the shock, but every day is a new day. Funny enough I was just thinking about you yesterday! Thank you so much, for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment, you're very kind! Take care Dwyllis!

Hi there. I am slowly coming to terms with the loss of my friend .... when I'm not at work, I am filling my time either out in the garden (our fickle early spring weather permitting), or being inspired on GoY, so that's helping. Your garden deserves the compliment! So pretty & very helpful of you to have named so many of the lovely plants.
