Seen early morning, this beautiful female yellow Dragonfly, after hovering above the border, it came to rest on a clematis stem to sunbathe.

Thanks everyone such lovely comments.....:o)) this is the best of quite a few, little monkey kept turning round so I couldn't see her!
Lol Karen....yes I did, my one and only setting....:o))
Thanks Shirley!
I thought at first it was a huge wasp, this is the first time I've seen a yellow Dragonfly.

I did see a hornet today!

Ooh....don't like those Paul, last year we had one in the garden for a while....evil looking critter...:o((
21 May, 2011
damn right - the good April brought them in - hate the way they pulsate !
21 May, 2011
Looks like 9ct gold Janey!
21 May, 2011
They are really aggressive aren't they.......
It does Grandmage!
21 May, 2011
Wow, indeed! Lol, one and only setting....me too! except occaisionally Macro!
I shared my studio with a hornet a couple of years ago, HUGE critter! Don't mind them singly, just not a nest they are defending!!
22 May, 2011
Hornets? My goodness, I would be screaming! Janey, I'm gonna give up trying to use the camera properly and just use IA all the time like you!!
22 May, 2011
Ha..ha a girl after my own heart Lulu....after starting to read the instruction manual, I decided the camera would know better than me what it was doing! It does depend though on what you are taking, anything liable to move quickly you're not able to get too close to, then I like it best Karen.......I think you're very brave trying to tackle the instructions Lol!
22 May, 2011
Oh, no, sorry I misled you. What I should have said was 'I'm going to give up worrying about tackling the instructions, and just accept that I will never use anything except IA' Janey! I haven't tackled them, I just keep thinking I really OUGHT to tackle them!! lol
22 May, 2011
Wonderful photo, Janey, so sharp. Whatever IA is it's working well :)
22 May, 2011
Intelligent Auto. Gee!
22 May, 2011
Oh Wow Janey ... and to think I have bought a camera the same as yours on your recommendation because your photos are always so stunning, I don't think I'll ever be that good ,and I've decide to stop reading the manuel and do the same as you , 'cos thats good enough for me :o))
22 May, 2011
Never read the manual...intelligent auto should be us!! Lol hahah!
22 May, 2011
Amazing shot. So much detail.
22 May, 2011
That is fantastic Janey, love all the wing detail
23 May, 2011
Well I can't find my booklet anywhere Karen.....must've binned in after page 2......:o))
It's not bad is it Gee...the camera is highly intelligent, which lets me off the hook...Lol!
Aw thanks Amy...it did turn out better than I thought, at first she had her wings forward, hiding her face, I'm sure she was busy with the lippy....:o)
Ha..ha Lulu....yes what a good name ...Intelligent Auto R us...Lol!
Thanks Tog haven't seen her since....bet she's got blown off course in all the wind.
The wings are incredible aren't they Annella....especially where they join the body...it reminds me of victorian ironwork!
23 May, 2011
Yes your right Janey it does
24 May, 2011
what a fabulous photo ~ ive tried for ages to get a shot like that ~ but mine are either a blur or just a blank ~ where it flew away!
i love the way the gold seems to shine
what camera is it janey?
25 May, 2011
Amazing shot!! Beautiful insect..and so perfectly captured, Janey! you really should take some credit though! I've been having a bit of a power struggle with my camera too. The lightbulb lit up after about a month of threatening to throw it out the window of a moving train! I finally figured out the macro and that took care of one of my problems with it...had trouble focussing! he he..., the results of intelligent auto are better than I can manage most of the time!
25 May, 2011
Really good close up. They are about early this year although the flowers are in advance of their time too.
26 May, 2011
That's an INCREDIBLE shot, Janey - wonderful! An intelligent camera sounds just what I need . . . had a look in DutyFree but it was all too bewildering, so a recommendation would be terrific.

great pic

Thank you Sticki and Sheila! Its a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ28, a pres from Ian, and I love using it, the focus is great and the magnification. Both Amy and Karen have the updated version now.
Thanks Lori....:o) Ha...ha, I agree It's great to look at what you taken, and such a surprise half the time....Lol!
I haven't seen it since Linda, I wonder if it had just emerged. We've had heavy downpours today, so hope it was snug and dry somewhere....
Thanks Holly...:o)

thanks janey; mine has broken, it has been good till now ~ a canon G10 but im wondering what to do if it cant be fixed.
27 May, 2011
Thank you so much, Janey. I have just Googled the Panasonic etc. and watched a video about it(!). The advice was to "play with it" before deciding. I've never been much of a photographer, but am getting quite excited (no doubt due to the inspired pics on GoY), and OH will be SO pleased at the thought of a Good Idea for my "special" birthday later this year. :)
27 May, 2011
I'm sure you'll be as pleased with it Sheila as I am with mine. We used to have an Olympus years ago and I quite enjoyed using that though all the different settings etc were a nightmare!...Lol Now I love taking photos more than gardening....it's such fun to use....:o)
27 May, 2011
that sounds a very good recommendation janey ~ thanks. if mine cant be fixed i think i shall get one.
im wondering if i can invent a special birthday sheila ~ surely any number can be special if we choose??!!
27 May, 2011
Good idea Sticki, and seeing I shall be "cough, cough" I think it's best to keep quiet. OH says I'll always be 35 anyway . . . aaaaahhhhh!!
28 May, 2011
Wow Jane its a fantastic photo
28 May, 2011
35 is a very good age to be ~ wish i was still 35 ~ oh sorry what i mean is ~ what is it like to be 35? its a few more years till i get there!!!!
28 May, 2011
Yes really worth having Sticki......every birthday is special isn't it...I like the idea of going backwards though....crikey I'll soon be younger than my kids...Lol! 35 is a perfect age Sheila....good old OH!
Aw, thanks Carol....:o))
28 May, 2011

Wow Janey . . fantastic photo, definitely magazine/calendar quality! Are you sure it's not a 24 carat gold broach? Seriously, it's great.
Speaking of IA, I thought every woman was born with it!!!!!! ;-))
17 Jun, 2011
