Amazing view, even with the fog !

On a clear day you can see 2 other islands. There are cows on the lower left and all the walls along the road are new - it used to be a path 2-3 feet wide and full of weeds.

Hello Wylie, I read about Azores as a child. What is the weather there now during X-mas? Is it hot or just fine for short sleeves?

Today, we are expecting a high of 18*C and a low of 14*C. About 10 years ago, there was a massive storm for Xmas that caused flooding (people throw all kinds of things in the dry stream beds even though there are dumpsters all over the place and the main dump is free). But in rarely gets below 50*C. 2 islands over is Pico, a volcanic mountain and the highest point in Portugal. It and a peak on my island (Terceira) get snow. Hidden in the background are 2 more islands - Sao Jorge and Graciosa. But when the wind blows - 70 KPM plus gusts to over 100, the wind chill makes it seem colder. The only question is, will we have to pay for the nice weather later with a long, cold spring? 8>)

I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years. This does kind of remind me of the Livermore Valley, in winter...with the exception of the walls. :>)

You are so blessed to have a view like that! Me JEALOUS!

I see Eucalyptus trees there. Is there a lot of them there, like here in California?

When the Azores was discovered, there wasn't that much native flora & fauna, so they imported all kinds of plants, rabbits, and pigeons. From Australia, there was eucalyptus and pittosporum unulatum. I have several banksia trees that someone else planted, and the government is trying to get people to grow proteas for the cut flower trade. These are all Australian imports. When I go walking through the forest, and even in my own wood, I can see where people cleared the stones and made walls and terraces for growing things. But it was all abandoned and these trees took over, creating the woods. They are also on the list of invasive species in Portugal. After the new road was built, I had to get a permit to cut trees on my land. It was for the cryptomeria species and I was told I didn't need one for the eucalyptus, pittosporum or acacia.
