Do ladybirds hibernate?

These were just some hollyhock stems Paul meant to put the pot outside in the hedge but as usual forgot, the ladybirds still found it though :-)
Yes Sheilar they do often in groups I have one plant in the greenhouse with several hidden among the leaves they've been in the same spot since early October fast asleep :-) I try to leave all my cutting back till spring in the garden too, gives them somewhere to hide :-)

Great idea,Simbad..wonder if it would work with the canes of my Miscanthus Zebrina grass, when I cut it down in spring, and cut them into smaller lengths ? Worth a try.:o)

Thanks TT and Gattina:-), your Miscanthus would do fine Bloomer I grow quite a lot of big perennials, plume poppy, giant scabious, inula racemosa, hollyhock, all have hollow stems of different sizes so good for all sorts of insects :-)

Funny, I must have been ladybird in my previous life as I had once a dream, that I saw some strange thing like this, thing whhich had lot of holes and I flew inside....That was lovely dream.

Nice one Kathy......

Nice dream Katarina.
As it's so mild the ladybirds just seemed to have slowed down. If they sleep, I wonder if one one them dreams she was a human called Katarina!

Love youe little visitors, thanks for the idea will try it myself this year ;0)

I do not know, Lulu, if ladybirds have dreams, even weather they have brain :)
It reminds me some other form of dreams. Somebody told me last year, that thanks to computerization people are forgetting to dream. Instead of dreaming they play video games. They do no narrate stories to each other, but are listening to radio broadcasted plays or to TV.
I bet ladybirds communicate with each other more :)

What a great idea and cost almost nothing except your time. Yes there are many ladybirds around and the native ones too. I haven't seen any yet with the orange legs and feelers.
