It is karensusan, I love semps, i dont have steps tho, Hywel suggested using them last year, in gaps in walls etc, im going to have a good look around this year to see if i can find room for more, maybe in the gravel!

I used to have some in the holes in bricks. I lay the bricks in the gravel alongside my greenhouse and popped the semps in to the holes with a bit of coarse compost and gravel. The were fine and it did look good, but sadly something ate all the roots and eventually I had to give up on it. Worth a try though....:)

I do like this idea, have seen it done before very effective.

I grow them in the holes of red building bricks too...I love this Ydd....:>)

Grea t idea of mixing plants with the gaps in the steps.

i need to make steps at the steep wooded slope back of my house, this looks a lot more do-able than stone or brick! thanks for sharing.
