Having a breather..

Having finished repotting all overwintering plants and cuttings into fresh compost, and a good watering..I'm sure they enjoyed being outside in the fresh air today..As yet,I seem to have lost only one cutting, from three I took last summer,of Pittosporum'Tom Thumb'..so fingers crossed for the other two..still tiny, but with signs of life !..Hope springs eternal.:o))

That's a job well done, Sandra ... I did similar today and am pleasantly surprised to find many Hebe cuttings have rooted really well ... not doing so well with the Dianthus though ... did those Penstemons thrive or fall by the wayside? ...

Thanks Sev..I am very pleased with them..and the sun has been lovely ,this past couple of days..makes you feel good, doesn't it .? :o) I like your Avatar,btw..:o)

Thanks Shirley..Glad your Hebes are doing well..and one of the Penstemons you sent me,is fine, but the other has struggled.. I have still repotted it,so it might rally yet ! I won't give up on it..but maybe it will need the last rites eventually..we will see ! Lol...Sounds as though it is coming out in sympathy with your Dianthus..:o(

Thanks Yorkshire..very satisfying to see them growing now..I don't think I will need many bedding plants this year..famous last words ! Lol...I have some trailing Begonias to start off yet,so that is the next job...

6 Mar, 2012

got all our begonias waiting to be started off but don't want to do it yet as they will have to go in the greenhouse and I don't think its warm enough yet, during the day is o.k. but the frost we had last night would kill anything off,

6 Mar, 2012

Yes,I am waiting a bit too..it was really a keen white frost last night, and this morning, wasn't it ? and feels as though it will be the same tonight too..brrr.!

A good start , Bloomer . Seeds planted with me but not much happening with anything else in the greenhouse yet . We had our annual rainfall yesterday , all in one go !

Thanks Sandra..I am pleased wth this years results..but I am lucky to be able to find room for them in the Conservatory,as I don't have a greenhouse, just a plastic growhouse and cold frame..far too cold ..I have staging from another growhouse, inside,so it has been ideal...and we still have room to sit in there ..just about! :o))

Well done with all your cuttings. Yes one usually loses a few over the winter but it's worth taking some for the following year. Yesterday Gerry took the bubblewrap down to let more light into the greenhouse. Washing the glass today. Lost a few plants over the winter, but fuschia cuttings have done really well. Planted sweet peas and marigolds. Nice to get going again and see things growing.

Cheers Linda..glad your Fuchsia cuttings have done well too..just had a bit of white fly on them, but all clear now..:o)...Osteospernums are romping away..taken from my neighbours plants..she did give me permission ! Lol.

8 Mar, 2012

I lost a few of the osteospernums but still have 4 left and that's all I need really for my little patch. We suffered botritus on the geranium plants but I've taken off all the infected foliage and Gerry has sprayed them and they seem to be o.k. at the moment. Nice to share with the neighbours your plants.

Wow your plants have over wintered vey well Sndra, I took Ostosperum cuttings but they haven't survived the winter, but the Fuschias seems to have fared well;0)

16 Mar, 2012

I was surprised to see most of them survived too,Carole..Definitely lost a 'Gary Rhodes' fuchsia cutting, but the parent plant is fine..why I only took one,I don't know..but hopefully, I can take some more later ..I really don't want to lose this one..glad to hear yours are ok :o)

Isn't it lovely to get the tiny plants out into the sunshine? They all look so healthy. Well worth the trouble you take with them

21 Mar, 2012

Thanks Wildrose..I have been able to put them outside quite a few times,so far..they are growing really well now..looks like I might have to repot some of them on again, before its warm enough to plant out...lucky I'm a hoarder of empty pots...and then there are all the seeds that have germinated ...the ones I said I wouldn't be doing again this year....famous last words ! oh dear :o)
