I spent my childhood in woodland just like this. Seeing this photo gave me a real pang of nostalgia, P. Woods can be so beautiful.

My all time favourite places Oji...I have a deep set memory of looking up through the canopy to the sunlight in the Goyt valley...Red shorts and sandals, would make me about five years old.

I do too..only the wood that I remeber was really jsut about a dozen trees on a wee hill up form the park where I played. THe sun always shone and I used to imagine pixies and faeries and elves lived there lol. Oh to be that age again :))))))

Ahh ..You only need three trees together for the little people to gather Pixi...A Hawthorn an Oak and an Ash..But I was always told that you must never upset the spirit of the Elder tree.............Often wonder if that is where the 'Respect your Elders' came from...

Oooh maybe! I have and elder growing in a pot..was told to get rid of it //hmm

I am lucky enough to have old woodland accessible from just beyond the house. It's lovely, but .... it's not 'my' wood, so I can't find any faeries there. I hope the children still can, though.

There is an Ancient woodland near here I have not been to yet...it has Boggarts dwelling there.

Maybe you should stay away!

My only childhood forest was Epping, which I don't think counts as a "proper" forest, at least the bits we went to - I know parts of it are very old, but we stayed close to the road.

My idea of heaven is a mixed woodland, a chuckling stream near at hand, birds singing, leaves rustling in the breeze, the bustle of small life all around. How could there not be Other People in such a place?

so you need hawthorn oak and ash for magic then pimms?? do you think i have upset them when i pulled up the ground elder??

Hmm..Not sure about ground elder Sticki, but I would never do an Elder tree in. I would Prune them and that...but not, you know..? Never.

haha Sticki - I went on a little trip today with the camera - and wow oh wow! got some fantastic pictures. Will try to find a strenght to put a blog. In the meantime will post a picture or two for you:)

It is Dawn...The one place I can't hear the city traffic. I just realised what was different about the place since I was last there. All the bramble has been totally cleared, a massive task.

it really is lovely, i love secret paths! and yes brambles do get in the way dont they?
