Oh... lovely ...

This is a POND!

Yes Katerina - very small, but they love to get in and have their 'wash & brush up'!! :)
We get lots of frogs & we have some newts. Dragonflies visit as well & lay eggs around the edge where there is some mossy bits.
We used to have lots of fish, but the heron got most of them I think!
At one time we had about 30 plus, all bred from the original 5 we started with!

Our garden is not that big, but we had 2 heron come at the same time a couple of months ago (they looked huge landing on the lawn!!) - no fish for them any more though!!

The pond was a bit bigger when we first made it because we had a flexible liner & it sloped to the edges.
However after a few years it 'sprung a leak' so we had to get the liner out & then we decided to get a rigid pre-formed liner. Not as big now, but the wildlife still like it!

We changed recently to a rigid liner for our new Pond, not that big...but just right in our small garden...

crissue do you mind me asking why you changed to a rigid liner? im wondering about making a pond.

Stickitoffee via crissue - we changed to a rigid because we thought it would be less trouble to install, but although we'd had the pond with a flexible liner at first, (until it sprung a leak) we still had to dig out the hole a bit more to make it fit the rigid!! (one job always makes another doesn't it!!)
We also thought it might be a bit stronger. It's o.k. & the creatures still frequent it, but truly I prefer the flexible liner because you are not tied to a certain shape!
I liked our first pond better where we had a little pebble beach up to the lawn, & it all looked more natural.
We shan't be changing it again though!! This one will have to 'see us out'!!

Thank you! I had the flexible one in mind, mainly because I couldn't imagine digging out the hole exactly enough.

Maybe it's part of their courting ritual . . . you know, like taking the missus to your favourite restaurant on your anniversary or a couple of days away at a romantic spot.

Lovely idea!! You could be right, because it seems that once they have eggs to look after (maybe) they come one at a time for a while. Then a bit later on they are both back!! ...... until they give up coming altogether until the following year!!
