Thanks ladies :)
These are paeonies which are a cross between a perennial and a tree paeony Meadowland. Probably too specialist for GCs.
My local nursery is 'world famous' for his paeonies. If you google Itoh paeonies you can get the story behind them.
I want to buy another but it's been too wet to spend the day there making my mind up!!! It took me three visits to choose this one!!

Brilliant colours I can see you have been up at Binnie. I daren't go there, that walled garden full of must haves would break the bank and probably force me to move to a bigger garden.

This was bought last year Sheila - only one flower this year but still - it's better than none :))))
I have some pennies put aside for another nice one this year - but haven't managed to get along to have a look. It's been too wet every weekend and I would rather see them in their finery than looking all wet and miserable.
The really nice ones are not cheap!!!! This one cost me almost £50...if I say it quick it doesn't sound much :)))
Leighanne - in the flesh the middle looks like something from under the ocean with teeth, quite fascinating really!

Thanks Simbad - the picture doesn't do it justice really. I moved it to a new home in the garden and am doubtful I will get any flowers this year :(
Peonies are my favourite flower - lots of buds on my other ones.
