there was nothing else like it anywhere around!! i had trouble climbing up, mostly bare rock and there was this plant seemingly perfect!!
i dont know what it is though dawnsaunt ~ do you know?
13 Jul, 2012
looks almost the same as in Stevie's picture.
13 Jul, 2012
thats what i thought!!! i should have taken something else in the photo to give it some scale. perhaps the stems were more like 20cm tall but the whole plant around 40cm wide???
13 Jul, 2012
the only thing that doesn't seem right is the colour of the leaves...
13 Jul, 2012
Hi Sticki, pretty certain it's: Rhodiola Rosea (sedum rosea).
13 Jul, 2012
thanks dawns aunt, so it is a sedum! do you think a bird dropped the seed?
13 Jul, 2012
this photo was taken a month ago kasy, in the far north of scotland
13 Jul, 2012
well done Dawnsaunt - didn't know that plant.
Thank you:)
13 Jul, 2012
That's gorgeous Sticki !
13 Jul, 2012
thanks paul, it seemed in perfect condition but you wouldnt believe the conditions it was growing in!!
13 Jul, 2012
incredible how some survive :))
13 Jul, 2012
they totally amaze me!
13 Jul, 2012
yes and me
13 Jul, 2012
No idea if the birds dropped it but its a lovely plant, before it gets in flower its more clustered, if you google it, you'll see. It must like those conditions as its a rockery plant.
13 Jul, 2012
I don't know how it got there, but I would like it to come here lol
13 Jul, 2012
an extreme rockery i think DA!!
sorry hywel ~ if only i had known, and if i had been sensible [instead of being exhausted from climbing] i should have brought a little piece. bit far to go back for it ~ sorry. but if i go back i will remember next time!!
13 Jul, 2012
I can send you a root Hywel, never paid you back for the New Dawn Rose cuttings :-)
13 Jul, 2012
Don't plants pop up in unexpected places? What a happy discovery.
13 Jul, 2012
I have this in my garden Sticki sorry to disagree re it's name I think it is Euphorbia Myrsinites, fancy finding it right up there, good you could hang on and take a pic :o)
13 Jul, 2012
I have a little plant of this...lovely
13 Jul, 2012
amazing, they are popping up everywhere !!!!!!!! it makes it very interesting!!!
the only thing in favour of the situation of this one would be the gulf stream.
does the size of the plant match in with sedum or euphorbia?
13 Jul, 2012
On page 3 of my gallery there is a pic of one in my garden Sticki, Hywel named it for me and it checked out in my flower encyclopedia. Love it whichever it is, clever of it to cling there with all the weather it must get thrown at it up there :o)
13 Jul, 2012
Found it Neellan, thank you, it certainly looks very similar.
13 Jul, 2012
No probs as I say love it whichever :o)
13 Jul, 2012
Glad you got back safely from that one, Sticki ;-)
(Great pic, by the way!)
13 Jul, 2012
I have that in my garden ..didnt know what it was called :) Mental place for it to be!
13 Jul, 2012
That is amazing,Sticki..I thought Euphorbia at first glance..but not really sure..glad you took a pic of it though, love it..:o)
14 Jul, 2012
What a brilliant little plant! Perfect in every respect.
14 Jul, 2012
it was totally amazing, i wont forget the sight of it! thank you everyone,
i struggled to get up to the top of the cliff ~ no proper path ~ and then to see this little beauty just flowering and not struggling at all, mesmerising!
16 Jul, 2012
great shot :-)
17 Jul, 2012
was a bit precarious SL
17 Jul, 2012
i bet, i was wondering how you did it were you hanging over the edge...
18 Jul, 2012
actually yes i did take one like that but this one was when i was still in the process of scrambling up the cliff with no path [OH leading the walk!!!] i dont like walks without paths!!! it was very stony with very few safe footholds
18 Jul, 2012
Blimey Sticki... well done for you getting this pic then
18 Jul, 2012
i was determined SL!!! only good bit about that walk!! oh and it was very interesting talking to the man who had a little plot where he was growing potatoes, must have been 30 miles from where he lived down tiny lanes, he said they were the most expensive potatoes ever but he liked them!!!
18 Jul, 2012
30 miles away they must have been blinking good potato's for that distance... i hate going 3 miles to the supermarket :-))
18 Jul, 2012
he lived in a small town [more like a village size] where there are two small shops, then he could have driven about 10 or 15 miles to another small supermarket
i suspect he just loved being there!!! he grew them on the sand and peat mixture just above the beach. they looked very healthy
18 Jul, 2012
that sounds really nice :-)
18 Jul, 2012
http://www.scotland-inverness.co.uk/huishn.htm
if you look carefully at the top picture you can see some little houses, the potatoes were just a bit further onto the grass behind those ~ half way between two beaches!
18 Jul, 2012
Wow looks lovely...
18 Jul, 2012
its all lovely and that isnt the best bit!!
18 Jul, 2012
Fantastic.
21 Jul, 2012
amazing isnt it!! i had enough trouble getting up there but the plant seems to have no trouble!!
21 Jul, 2012
Is it close to you or have you been on a vacation there?
21 Jul, 2012
it was on my holiday in the hebrides, last month
21 Jul, 2012
Did you meet seals?
21 Jul, 2012
i saw some from the shore, they were basking about 20 metres off the beach;
21 Jul, 2012
:)) Must have been beautiful! :))
21 Jul, 2012
for me it is the best place i have ever been to, its where i dream of living.
21 Jul, 2012
...and what will you do there? :)
21 Jul, 2012
...sorry, this was usually question of my father when I was dreaming of something. He is my dream catcher. lol.
21 Jul, 2012
i could be free, just enjoy living!!!!
and as to what i would do ~ its one of those inspiring places, i might write, i would definitely take photos, i might make things to sell, i would walk, breathe the fresh air, etc.
it was in this blog, it shows you a bit more of Harris

Looks like the beautiful area. Untouched by humans. So clear, isnĀ“t it? I guess those beaches are so clear because you do not have German tourists there. The water is too cold for them, lol.
21 Jul, 2012
i love it there because it is so wild, beautiful and not ever busy, you get the whole beach to yourself!!!
21 Jul, 2012
I would be sorry if I could not swim.
21 Jul, 2012
a bit cold for swimming but so absolutely beautiful to look at it really doesnt matter
maybe ok with a wet suit??
21 Jul, 2012
Hahaha.
22 Jul, 2012
:-)
22 Jul, 2012
Amazing ! it just goes to show where there's a will there's a way :o))
