New Grasses

Janey

New Grasses (Hakonechloa macra (Hakonechloa))

On the left is a beautiful bright new grass Acorus which I bought from our GC on Thursday: we went back today for a new tub to plant it in, and we ended up with two new tubs and another gorgeous grass Hakonechloa which is on the right. Whose a lucky girl then.....:o))

These look lovely Janey:-) Now when I said i'm not a grass person...I didn't mean these two, I have acorus and hakeo ...I meant those ones where I can't tell if they're alive or dead. Which acorus is it?:-)

And dont that look super in those pots, I have both grasses and love them, the Hakeo has been growing in our garden for over 20 years now, would hate to be without it.

Thanks everyone, I'm really pleased with them..:)). They just seem to fit right Hb..I wasn't sure which colour pot to get but am pleased I chose these.
I can imagine they would look great together Meadowland!
Lol Scottish.....there's a more golden variety too, which turns bronze in autumn....this is the next one I'd like....
Thanks Sticki and Carole...:))
Ha ha Ba......It's the gramineus ogon. I know what you mean, there was a stunning ginger gold grass, looked great next to some small black ones there. Those dried brown type aren't much fun though are they....:((
Thanks Dd, it's good to know it's really hardy....what's it like in winter, I wasn't sure if it was evergreen or not?

It comes through the winter well, but if very cold looks a bit messy, so we cut it back.

Yep suits the pots very well : )

Thanks Dd...I know what to expect now......can you believe it, it's already had a slight prune.....my 2 cats have taken a fancy to it.....:((
Yes I think they're perfect Stevie....:))

Thats funny Janey, if I let them my girls like a chew at hakone too. I have quite few Ogon in my little bog garden, it's so easy to split and grows quickly:-)

Must be something that they need Ba, saying that, I bet if I cut a piece off and put it in their bowls, they'd think I was mad!

Angela recommended that Hakonechloa to me Janey, it's wonderful, but I've not seen it on offer up here ever. Still keeping my eyes peeled for it though, I love the way it arches...very elegant indeed..very oriental looking...and yes, I see the Prunus....so sad I've lost mine. Might get another one and keep it in a pot for a while. They are so great all year around they are interesting, and the blossom is so early too!

Hi. Only just found this site and already love it. I know it's a while ago but where are the pots from? LynnieC

Hello Lynniec....welcome to GoY! Just a warning, this site is very addictive and can seriously improve your health!

These pots were from my local garden centre, but as I never get round to taking the labels off any pot I buy, leaving them to look tatty and well worn, I had a look and they are Apta egg pots, with I've only just seen, a 10year guarantee, that's good isn't it? The Acorus grass I've since split into quite a few, so that was good value too...:))
